Rashid Khan will not be able to stop Dhawan-Pant
The Punjab Kings lost 4 runs in the last over at the Dubai International Stadium yesterday (for 17 runs). Sunrisers Hyderabad batted 134 for 9 earlier in the day. The T20 batting did not happen.
Yet the romantic supporters of the IPL had a chance to think of something else; When Delhi Capitals lost the wicket of Prithvi Shaw by only 20 runs. Who knows, at the end of the drama may freeze again!
Shikhar Dhawan (42 off 36 balls) and Shreyas Iyer (46 off 41 balls) did not allow the mistake to happen. Later, Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 6 off 42 balls with Shreyas ensured Delhi’s 6-wicket victory with 13 balls to spare.
Hyderabad star spinner Rashid Khan took 1 wicket for 26 runs in 4 overs. He broke the 52-run partnership between Dhawan and Shreyas off 48 balls but did not stop Delhi from winning. Pant was unbeaten on 35 off 21 balls.
Prithvi could not give a good start to Delhi by chasing a simple goal. He lost his temper after scoring 11 runs off 8 balls and got out after playing a bad shot. Delhi were then 20 for 1 in 2.5 overs. There could be danger from here.
Sunrisers skipper Kane Williamson attacked Afghan spinner Rashid Khan in the last over of the power play to increase Delhi’s danger.
The Dhawan-Shreyas duo played Rashid well. Dhawan, in particular, smashed the line-length in the first over with a six. Rashid, who gave away 10 runs in his first over, also digested sixes in his next over. This time with Shreyas’ bat.
With 9 runs in that over, the Dhawan-Shreyas duo thwarted Williamson’s plan to take a quick wicket.
Williamson did not give up. Rashid is the only bowler to take a wicket in the middle of the innings for Sunrisers.
This Kiwi got the result by bringing him back in the 11th over. Dhawan gave a wicket to Rashid to hit a six in that over. Delhi have gone halfway through the match by then.
Williamson bowled Rashid’s last over as Delhi were 39 off 36 balls. The Pant-Shreyas duo played the 15th over. The target is 36 off 30 balls. The two picked up 28 runs from the next two overs.
Pant and Shreyas secured the victory with 13 runs from the 18th over by Jason Holder. 2 sixes and 3 fours in the innings. Shreyas hit 2 sixes and 2 fours. Khalil Ahmed took 1 wicket for 33 runs for Sunrisers.
No one could score 30 runs for the Sunrisers. Abdul Samad, who came down with six, came from the bat with a maximum of 27 off 21 balls. Williamson was dismissed for 16 off 27 balls. Rashid Khan made 22 runs from 19 balls.
Two Proteas fast bowlers Anrikh Narkiye and Kagiso Rabada played well for Delhi. Rabada took 3 wickets for 36 runs.
