Superman Legacy Release Date: When Will the New Man of Steel Fly Into Theaters?
Superman Legacy Release Date: DC is entering a new era, and that means a new Superman. This one is different, though, because it was written by James Gunn as part of his plan to update DC’s strong team of heroes.
The DCU, as it is now officially called, will start with the Gods and Monsters plan for Chapter 1. This list includes some of the best superhero movies and TV shows, including a new take on the Man of Steel. James Gunn wrote and directed Superman: Legacy, which will put our favorite Kryptonian at the center of this new movie world.
Every DC fan is thinking about a new day, a new timeline, and a lot of uncertainty. So, to clear up all this confusion about movies, The Digital Fix is here to set the record straight. Here is our Superman Legacy release date, cast, story, and other information guide.
Will Superman: Legacy Be Shown in Theaters or on Streaming Services?
In the above introduction video, James Gunn also made it clear that Superman: Legacy is set to come out in theaters in 2025.
Even though it’s still early, it’s a safe bet that the DCU’s first feature film will follow the lead of the other big DC movies from the past few years and show up on HBO Max sometime after the film’s theater run.
Superman: Legacy Release Date
During James Gunn’s speech, it was revealed that a brand-new, different Superman will save the day on Friday, July 11, 2025.
Just one week after the Fourth of July, which seems fitting for a hero whose motto has always been “Truth, Justice, and the American Way” (which is weird, since Superman is an alien made by Canadian writers, but hey, why not be a little patriotic?).
Who’s Making Superman: Legacy?
James Gunn has announced that he will write the script for Superman: Legacy and direct it as well. Gunn’s first picture for DC was The Suicide Squad (2021), which he wrote and directed.
It was a successful reboot of the team of anti-heroes after the first movie wasn’t well received. In a series of tweets, Gunn talked about how much he liked the story and how he ended up directing the movie himself.
Just because I write something doesn’t mean I feel it in my bones, visually and emotionally, enough to spend over two years directing it, especially not something of this magnitude. But, the long and the short of it is, I love this script, and I’m incredibly excited as we begin this journey. #UpUpAndAway
Gunn also worked on comic book movies before he was co-CEO of DC Studios. He also wrote and directed all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies. In January 2024, they will start making Superman: Legacy.
Who Will Play Superman and His Other Characters?
This is the big question, and we finally have solutions. David Corenswet (Pearl) and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) will play Superman and Lois Lane, respectively. This was revealed on June 27.
Early rumors said that Corenswet, Pierson Fodé (Bold and the Beautiful), and Nicholas Hoult (Renfield) could play the Man of Steel, and Hoult could also play Lex Luthor. We also heard that Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton), and Samara Weaving (Scream IV) were all in the running to play Lois Lane.
Reports say that some of these same players also had screen tests at DC Studios. Because Henry Cavill was so well-known in the part, the fact that it was going to be played by someone else caused a lot of disagreement among fans.
Even though Cavill made a surprise showing in Black Adam (2022), the news that he was coming back was too soon. Gunn later said that Cavill wasn’t fired. He just didn’t get the job.
Is There a Trailer for Superman: Legacy Out Yet?
There hasn’t been a trailer for Superman: Legacy yet, and since we don’t even know who will play the Man of Steel yet, we probably won’t get one for a while.
So far, all we have to go on is James Gunn’s announcement video, in which he gives only the most general information about the next big-screen adventure of the Son of Krypton.
Leaks and Theories About Superman: The Legacy
Even though we already talked about Lex Luthor, there are reports that the Superman Brainiac will be in the next movie, as well as some new casting news.
A confirmed user of the r/DCEULeaks page on Reddit has said that they have seen concept art for the new movie that has been leaked. In their post, they say that this concept art shows “a generic gray robot with green highlights” and Brainiac’s “signature headpiece.” Along with all the nods to Brainiac, the user also says that Clark’s dad is played by Kurt Russell.
