The fateful Yellowjackets soccer trip was not restricted to team members. Coach Martinez brought his two sons, Travis and Javi, in addition to the team members and their coaches. Coach Martinez tragically dies as soon as the plane crashes, leaving his sons behind.
Javi is so affected by his father’s passing that he refuses to stop chewing the gum his father gave him to prevent his ears from popping for three days.

In Season 1 Episode 9 titled “Doomcoming,” the girls consume fermented berries laced with hallucinogenic mushrooms while everyone’s grief subsides as a result of their survival. Travis is occupied with Jackie (Ella Purnell), leaving Javi to observe the girls’ descent into insanity, with Lottie (Courtney Eaton) telling him in a terrifying voice to “Run!”
In response, Javi flees the girls into the woods, only to briefly return before fleeing again. At the beginning of Season 2, Javi is still missing, but winter has arrived in the Canadian wilderness, making it impossible to determine whether he is alive or dead. Others are not as optimistic as those who believe he is still alive.
