Early Life

Ronald Dee White was born on December 18, 1956, in the town of Fritch, Texas. Ron White is his son. Ron White and his sister, Shea, were brought up by their mother, Barbara Joan Craig, after the passing of their father, Charles, when Ron was still a young child. Ron went to Deer Park High School before enlisting in the United States Navy at the age of 17. He served on the USS Conserver during the “tail end” of the Vietnam War.

Ron joined the Navy at the age of 17. When Ron was in the Navy, he yelled to a soldier who was supposed to relieve him during a picnic, “Get up here and relieve me before somebody eats all that Tater Salad!” As a result, the soldier gave Ron the nickname “Tater Salad,” which stuck with Ron for the rest of his life. White had a brief stint as the owner of a pottery factory in Mexico after he left the Navy. Since he was a child, Ron has had the ambition to pursue a career in comedy, and when he got back to the United States, he made the decision to do just that.

In 1986, White gave his first stand-up comedy performance, and prior to becoming a headliner, he served as an opening act for both Jeff Foxworthy and Sam Kinison. The year 1990 saw the release of his first comedy album, titled “Tater Salad a.k.a. Busted in Des Moines,” and the year 1994 saw the release of his second comedy album, titled “Truckstop Comedy.” In the year 2000, Ron became a member of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, which lasted for three years, visited more than 270 cities, and earned more than $35 million.

In 2003, “Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie” was made available to the public, and in 2005, “Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again” was released. Even though White wasn’t a regular cast member on “Blue Collar TV,” he appeared as a guest star in a number of episodes during the show’s run on The WB from 2004 to 2006.

Margo Rey was his second wife. In 2017, Ron and Margo ended their relationship, and after Rey submitted a request for spousal support, White stated that the couple had never been legally married. A judge ruled in August 2019 that White and Rey were in a common-law marriage in accordance with the laws of the state of Texas. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ron was unable to make any money during that time, so he asked a judge in April 2020 to stop the monthly payments of $25,000 that he was required to make to Margo.
