Modern technology gives us many things.

One major Choice in Baldur’s Gate 3 Just Got Much Less Appealing

Among its many modifications, Patch 5 adds a secret epilogue for Lae’zel and makes a significant decision at the end of Act 1 that is best avoided altogether.

In addition to a ton of bug and glitch patches in Patch 5, Baldur’s Gate 3 has yet another batch of material, including a new epilogue that gives the game’s protagonists some closure and resolutions to side quests that were otherwise left unfinished.

However, the inclusion of an epilogue has revealed fresh information on decisions made when selecting companions. And one in particular, with newly revealed details about their culture, makes it worthwhile to overlook a certain decision to provide the happiest possible conclusion for a character who has struggled throughout the campaign.

Act 1 features several decisions that don’t necessarily have an immediate impact, including one near the conclusion where parties must enter the Mountain Pass to reach the Shadow-Cursed Lands.

The trio meets Lady Esther, a scholar who requests a Githyanki egg for her studies. Giving her the real githyanki egg, replacing it with an owlbear egg, or choosing not to finish the quest are often the possibilities. But, the githyanki egg can also be utilized for another purpose, which may be the finest one.

Lae’zel Should Receive The Githyanki Egg

Giving Lae’zel the Githyanki egg is one option that’s frequently disregarded. The fact that the option isn’t included in the dialogue choices is probably one of the reasons this possibility is neglected.

Lae’zel is not allowed to propose that Tav take the egg. Rather, in order to use this option, you must take control of Lae’zel and remove the egg from any chests where it may be kept, or move it to her inventory if it is in the possession of another character.

After that, all you have to do is keep it there for the remainder of the game. Given how delicate the conditions are to obtain it, it makes sense that this leads to a secret epilogue.

The githyanki in the egg has a far better life than he would have had in the hands of the researchers, but the payoff for making these decisions is well worth it. Tav can ask Lae’zel if the egg hatched during Withers’ party in the newly added epilogue in Patch 5.

In response, she says that he has hatched and that she knows he will develop into a wonderful guy. When she talks about Xan, the githyanki she’s rearing, it’s obvious how happy she is.

His importance to her is even shown in the name she gave him, as it means “freedom,” which is something she was only able to gain herself with the help of the party.

The Githyanki Need A Mother Like Lae’zel.

The goal of eliminating illithid threats was given to the highly militaristic Githyanki people. The way Lae’zel portrays githyanki relationships and partnerships sounds chilly when she’s romancing them.

Lae’zel is from a society that emphasizes fighting and strength, but through BG3’s adventures, she learns the importance of relationships and even thanks Tav for helping her see things from a different angle. And that modifies the opinions she will teach Xan.

Regarding Xan, Lae’zel remarks that he will become a fantastic warrior. She does, however, also point out that he is under no need to train as a fighter. She wants to offer him the opportunity to follow his path and become whoever he desires because, thanks to the party’s assistance, she was able to start making decisions independent of Vlaakith and his deceit and manipulation.

Considering how content Lae’zel is, it appears that the Githyanki could use more individuals who value diversity and the freedom to pursue one’s own interests.

The Path of Lae’zel in Baldur’s Gate 3 Is Especially Challenging

Lae’zel had complete faith in Vlaakith for years. After accepting all that her people had taught her, she was taken by a Nautiloid and infected with an illithid tadpole—possibly the worst thing that could have happened to a githyanki given their objective to exterminate the illithid.

Although her combative demeanor makes it difficult for her to gain allies, upon closer inspection, her insistence that they go to the Githyanki Crèche is motivated by the party’s best interests. She is prepared to share her only method for solving the tadpole puzzle with the community.

When Lae’zel gets to the crèche, yet more issues arise. The mutated parasite the party has been infected with has no known treatment, and she must come to terms with the fact that Vlaakith—a godlike figure in her eyes—has been deceiving the githyanki, with their actual prince imprisoned in the Astral Prism.

Furthermore, Vlaakith arranges a murderous ambush to eliminate them, preventing them from regaining the power she pilfered. As one revelation follows another, Lae’zel’s viewpoint is called into question. Because of this, she finds the journey to be very difficult, but she also sees it as a chance to improve herself.

Lae’zel Should Have A Happy Conclusion

After all of this hardship, Lae’zel deserves a joyful conclusion. There were many painful realities she had to face, but rather than living in denial, she made an effort to better herself and make things right for her people. Subsequently, she expresses in the epilogue her happiness and pride at being the hatchling’s mother and her gratitude for being able to offer him more options in life than she was given.

It suggests that this is Lae’zel’s best-case scenario, giving her the chance to nurture the next generation so they don’t make the same mistakes she did.

While not every story has a happy ending, Lae’zel may have the best possible outcome if a crucial decision made toward the end of Act 1 is not made and the githyanki egg is given to her instead.

Although her harsh demeanor may not make her the most cherished friend, her story offers significant personal development for those who follow it. For this reason, it’s good that Patch 5 included a hidden epilogue for Lae’zel, which brings her joy following the events of Baldur’s Gate 3.
