Matt Helders of Arctic Monkeys says Alex Turner “Definitely Caught on to The Bond Theme.”
Arctic Monkeys’ Matt Helders stated that Alex Turner “certainly caught on to the Bond motif” in their last album.
The drummer for the Sheffield band gave an interview to NME about their seventh studio album, titled “The Car.” This record ended up being our album of the year in 2022, besting Wet Leg, Beyoncé, and Fontaines D.C. to claim the top spot.
Given the cinematic and symphonic tone of their most recent album, Helders was eventually asked if the Monkeys had given any thought to attempting their hand at writing a James Bond song.
The musician gave a response that went something like this: “I’m sure it’s something we’d still be interested in, but I don’t think it’s been officially offered.”
“However, it appears that Alex is already writing Bond themes; the only problem is that there isn’t a movie that has been shot and is ready [for his songs] just yet! However, I would agree that it most certainly has a Bond motif.
Turner expressed the desire to compose a theme for Bond back in 2011, saying, “I would like to do it. Definitely.” The comment was made not long after the frontman had released a mini-album that featured the soundtrack to the film Submarine, which was directed by Richard Ayoade in 2010. (who previously shot music videos for AM).
The music publication NME afterwards referred to Arctic Monkeys as “the best band to handle the assignment” of composing a single for the future James Bond movie that will be released in 2018.
As the band continued to develop musically, many fans also felt that the single “AM” would be able to fit in appropriately within the setting of the long-running spy franchise.
In recent years, a number of actors, including Billy Irish, Sam Smith, Adele, Alicia Keys, and Jack White and Chris Cornell, have contributed to the writing of the Bond theme.
The drummer, Helders, was recently interviewed by NME, and throughout the course of the talk, he shared his thoughts on the experience of recording “The Car” with a full orchestra.
“Everything that was part of the band’s responsibilities was taken care of in the conventional sense, as we usually did, but then the strings were added separately,” he revealed. “Everything that was part of the band’s responsibilities was taken care of in the traditional sense.” “It was a different kind of recording procedure, but I found that studying it was always interesting.
“We recently had the opportunity to do these radio sessions with six people from the orchestra to try to play some of these new songs live, and I think we learned how to be disciplined and how to use [the orchestra] a lot in music,” said the lead singer of the band. “We recently had the opportunity to do these radio sessions with six people from the orchestra to try to play some of these new songs live.”
Helders elaborated further by saying, “On the record, he enters and disappears when it’s suitable – there’s just the proper number of strings.”
Meanwhile, the tracks “Body Paint” and “There’d Better Be A Mirrorball” by Arctic Monkeys have both made an appearance this week on the NME’s list of the “Best Songs of 2022,” taking the 24th and 5th places, respectively.
Turner’s “really serious, honest, romantic, and human” lyrics in the final track were commended by NME, and the publication referred to it as “the beauty of a slow dance waltz.”
According to reports from other sources, the headliners for NOS Alive 2023 have just lately been revealed to be Arctic Monkeys.
The band will perform in stadiums across the United Kingdom and Ireland in May, and then they will head to the United States and Canada in September. AM will be performing in Europe towards the end of April and the beginning of May, and they will return to Europe in July to play further shows there.
