John Wick: Chapter 4’s Ending?
Wick’s finale Chapter 4 is a battle across Paris as John fights Marquis bounty hunters to reach Sacré-Coeur before sunrise. This leads to a three-part fight in Paris: on the streets and buildings of Montmartre, in nighttime traffic in front of the Arc de Triomphe, and up the 222 Montmartre stairs.
Bounty hunters receive calls from a secret Eiffel Tower radio station and fight. Assassins shoot Wick from cafes, automobiles, and other places in Montmartre. John fights Mr. Nobody (Shamier Anderson), Chidi (Mark Zaror), and scores of hired guns in an abandoned apartment complex.
John leaves the building and fights other bounty seekers near the Arc de Triomphe, where his car is shot at and crashes with others.
John confronts multiple assassins, including a revived Chidi, in the circular street during rush hour. John survives multiple automobile crashes, but many bounty seekers are killed by guns, knives, Mr. Nobody’s dog, and speeding cars.
John must climb the 222 Montmartre steps to reach the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris after escaping. Naturally, additional bounty hunters await.
Chidi pushes John down the stairs after nearly reaching the top. Caine helps John at the bottom of the stairs because he wants a fair fight and wants to fight John alone. Two assassins kill the bounty hunters.

John Wick: Chapter 4 Ends With His Death, Right?
John Wick: Chapter 4 ends with John’s death. Caine and John arrive at the Basilica at sunrise. The Marquis and the Harbinger (Clancy Brown) are present where the ritual duel begins. Both men get antique firearms and three bullets. They must walk 20 paces apart, aim their firearms, and shoot.
Following this, nobody is shot. They walk five steps toward each other, reload, and shoot. Again, nobody dies. Reloading their rifles, they walk five more paces toward each other and stand very close.
Caine fires alone this time. John gets smacked in the chest. Caine approaches the Marquis and asks if his responsibility to him and the High Table is complete.
Yes, the Marquis takes a rifle and leaves. He shoots John, assuming the assassin is dead. The Marquis forgets that John never fired that final bullet until John raises the revolver at him and shoots him in the head.
John stumbles away, sits on the Basilica steps, and watches the sunrise as he bleeds out. The Bowery King and Winston King then visit a graveyard. Two graves are shown: Helen Wick’s and John Wick’s, who died after dueling Caine.
Is John really dead? They never show him dying. Each comic or pop culture lover knows that a body is needed to prove death.
John Wick: Chapter 4 shows only a fade to the background and a grave with John’s name. I could envision John faking his own death to be left alone. No Continental, no Baba Yaga, no High Table… until John Wick: Chapter 5.
