Jelly Roll Halts Concert to Assist ‘Cancer Survivor’ in Securing a Superior Seat
Jelly Roll identified a woman from the stage when he saw her using an IV drip during his performance.
“At my gigs, I’ve witnessed a lot of bizarre stuff. At the Tailgates N’ Tallboys festival in Midland, Michigan in late July, the country music artist Jason Bradley DeFord made the following statement:
“But this young lady is out here with a full-blown IV.” The woman claimed to be a “cancer survivor” to 39-year-old Jelly Roll in a video that was posted on TikTok.
He turned to his group and said, “Let’s get her a chair” so she could watch the remaining portion of the performance after learning this. Then he turned to face the fan in the throng and promised, “We’ll get you off your feet, baby.” Alright?
Supporters flocked to TikTok to commend Jelly Roll for her deed of generosity.
“This man needs to be protected at all costs. One user added, “The world needs more of him,” and another exclaimed, “I was there and saw this happen.” He is a truly remarkable individual with a vast heart and immense empathy.
With singles like “Need a Favor,” Jelly Roll has had an incredibly successful year, earning him his first Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. However, he has a history of making time for fans who are facing cancer even as his career soars.
Taste of Country revealed in July 2023 that Jelly Roll visited with 65-year-old Suzanne Durham, a hospice patient with lung cancer in Nashville whose final desire was to watch him perform live. He performed a private concert for Durham and her guests, covering songs such the Eagles’ “Take It Easy” and his own “Son of a Sinner,” among others.
Durham, a house manager for women in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction, had experienced substance abuse and addiction in the past, just as Jelly Roll.
“I’m happy I could come see you,” he said to Durham in the summer. “I’m delighted you brought some pals along; this is awesome. If you were lying in bed by yourself, I was coming to you. Not because of [your] circumstances, but rather because I was able to help a woman who dedicated her life to service, I became emotional earlier.
“Someone who turned her life around and immediately found purpose helping people who were in that same situation,” he said, “someone who came out of the situation you came out of.”
Jelly Roll has found comfort in the knowledge that many are inspired by his life narrative, even while his background may serve as a warning.
The “Save Me” singer looked back on his meteoric rise to fame and remembered how his low points—which included spending ten years in and out of jail—led him to become a chart-topper in Us Weekly’s latest “Country Stars Love America” issue.
Jelly Roll told Us, “There were times in my life when it was so dark, there was absolutely no hope or sense of there being something else [other than] that.” “I never would have imagined dreaming of anything less than what the last year alone has brought,” the speaker said.
