Is Baki and Kozue Still Together? What Happened to Their Relationship?

We are aware that the Baki plot has always centered on Baki’s attempt to outsmart his father, but we also know that he is inspired to improve by his wonderful girlfriend. In light of this, Baki and Kozue have been dating for a while, and it appears that Baki prefers to spend his free time with her. However, in Hanma Baki: Son of Ogre, what became of Kozue?

In the plot, Baki and Kozue are still together. Simply put, the narrative is now primarily concerned with Baki’s preparation for his duel with Yuujirou Hanma, his father. As a result, Kozue has been dropped from the narrative to allow Baki and the other fighters to take center stage.

Kozue was never the most significant character in the narrative, despite the fact that she was always significant to Baki as a character. Kozue was never really a character who was essential to the development of the storyline; rather, she was more of a plot device.

Therefore, the story of Baki can continue with or without her. Having said that, let’s examine Kozue’s experience in Baki.

Does Baki Keep His Girlfriend Safe?

The plot of Baki might center around Baki Hanma and his ambition to become the world’s greatest boxer. However, we also know that his interactions with people outside of the fighting community are a subplot in the story.

When Baki isn’t training or fighting, Kozue Matsumoto—who he first met when he moved into his flat with his dog—is the most significant person in his life.

Around the age of seventeen, Baki and Kozue first became friends when Kozue took up the task of feeding Baki’s dog while Baki was away from training. It was Kozue who first noticed that Baki was rarely attending school and was never home. And for good reason—Baki was probably training rather than doing anything else.

A bunch of thugs kidnapped Kozue in one of Baki’s previous tales. Kozue’s buddy Mai attempted to report it to the police, but they chose to overlook the matter. Therefore, Baki had to assist Kozue. Their bond deepened when he soundly defeated the thugs and saved Kozue.

Kozue and Baki officially became a couple not long after Baki saved her from the thugs. Yuujirou was happy when Baki and Kozue had their first sexual experience during the Most Evil Death Row Convicts story because he believed that having sex makes a person stronger and more manly.

Are Baki and Kozue Still a Couple?

Is Baki and Kozue Still Together

Kozue was a major contributor to the Baki anime, which carried on from the Baki the Grappler series in the 2000s. As previously established, Baki and Kozue had sex during the story of the Most Evil Death Row Convicts, and this experience further strengthened Baki’s will to fight.

However, Kozue was constantly concerned that Baki would push himself too far and damage himself in their fights throughout their whole time together.

Baki was poisoned during the fight with Yanagi, the prisoner. Because of the poison, his physique withered till he was only a shadow of his former self. This made Kozue even more worried about Baki, but he never wavered in his support for the young warrior who was still exerting a lot of effort.

The moment that Yanagi’s poison and Kaiou Ri’s poison combined was when Baki fully healed. The young Hanma’s ability to stand again was ultimately attributed to Kozue’s love and tears for Baki.

The narrative then turned to Muhammad Alai Jr., who issued Baki a challenge to a duel. In their bout, Hanma handily defeated Alai Jr. Baki thought he had already reached a point where he could become the hardest opponent his father had ever faced, so he turned to face him and challenged him to a duel.

We also know that Yuujirou is the strongest beast on the world, which is why he goes by the moniker “Ogre.”

Kozue continued to live with Baki despite his increased attention to his conflict with his father. Nothing in the narrative suggested that Kozue had broken up with Baki or moved on. It’s possible that Kozue was purposefully left out of the narrative to emphasize Baki’s preparedness more.

Because of this, Kozue was conspicuously missing during the Arizona Prison and Pickle arcs, which were crucial to Baki’s development into one of the greatest fighters in the world and the only one capable of challenging his father.

Furthermore, it seemed like Kozue had no place in those story arcs because her involvement would have complicated matters.

The Baki plot has very few female characters, which makes sense as Keisuke Itagaki was never recognized for his skill in creating female characters.

In Kozue’s case, she was never a key character in the Baki plot; rather, she was merely a plot device in the narrative. And that’s most likely the reason she abruptly vanished throughout the manga and anime series for Hanma Baki: Son of Ogre.

What Became of Kozue After Baki?

As previously stated, Kozue seemed to vanish from Baki’s life following his challenge to a fight with Yuujirou. One of Baki’s many actions involved kidnapping the US president to confront Biscuit Oliva at the Arizona State prison.

He also engaged in combat with Pickle, a massive caveman. But during all of this, where had Kozue been?

There was never an explanation for Kozue’s absence from the events leading up to Baki and Yuujirou’s fight. Itagaki remained silent about Kozue as she wasn’t essential to the plot.

As a result, we can conjecture about Kozue’s whereabouts over the entire period, since it’s plausible that she attended college or concentrated more on her academics while Baki was honing his fighting skills.

It’s also likely that Kozue stayed in Baki’s apartment to take care of things as she knew he would be extremely busy. Though anything may happen, the truth is that she never really needed to be a part of the Hanma Baki plot, which was mostly about Baki and the newly revealed warriors.

But Kozue did show up to encourage Baki and Yuujirou to continue fighting in the midst of their altercation. This is most likely one of the rare times where Kozue encouraged Baki to battle harder despite his fatigue and injuries.

She therefore appeared to be a supporting figure in Baki’s life because Baki’s relationships were never a major plot point.
