Hell’s Paradise Jigokuraku Episode 1 Recap
Jigokuraku episode 1, titled The Death Row Convict and the Executioner, began with the failed execution of Gabimaru, a ruthless assassin known as Gabimaru the Hollow from Iwagakure. Gabimaru was interrogated in his cell by Asaemon Sagiri, a skilled decapitator from the Yamada Clan, who learned about his background and failed execution attempts.
Gabimaru expressed his desire to leave his ninja life behind and live peacefully with his wife, whom he initially claimed made him unhappy. Sagiri confronted him with the fact that he genuinely loved his wife and desired to leave the village to live a normal life with her. Iwagakure’s chief had duped Gabimaru into completing a final mission before capturing him.
Gabimaru is allowed to earn his freedom and reunite with his wife by travelling to a mysterious land called Shinsenkyo with other convicts in search of the elixir of life, which grants immortality.
Gabimaru accepts the mission, demonstrating his true Ninjutsu abilities and defeating the Magistrate’s office staff. The episode concludes with Gabimaru embarking on a quest for the elixir to gain his freedom and reunite with his wife.
