Tannie Maria says that food is “medicine for the body and heart.” She wants to be in love as much as she likes to cook and eat. But Tannie Maria’s life is turned upside down when one of the people who wrote her column is brutally killed.

When her recipe column is cut from the local paper, Tannie Maria (Kennedy) tries to get a job as an advice writer instead. Things take a strange turn when the body of a woman who wrote to Maria about how her husband beats her is found.

As Maria digs into her strange past to try to solve the case, she finds that her two worlds are coming together.

Maria teams up with Jessie September, a local rookie journalist who likes to take risks and is sometimes Maria’s rival, to look into the murder and catch the killer before the cops find more victims.

But will they make too many friends and risk the thief seeing them before they catch him? In the meantime, Maria soothes her readers by giving them advice from her own life and giving them soothing recipes.
