From the beginning, John Wayne was also called “The Duke.” He was a very talented actor who did great things in the business for 50 years until he died. Girls Demand Excitement, Haunted Gold, West of the Divide, Conflict, New Frontier, Trouble Along the Way, Circus World, The Train Robbers, and Star Wars are all important works by John Wayne.
In all of his movies, John Wayne played the same way. Also, he was very picky about how things went. After that, John turned down parts in movies like High Noon, Gunsmoke, The Dirty Dozen, Streets of Laredo, etc.
In regards to John Wayne’s death, he was 72 years old at the time. When the news got out, no one at first thought it was true. It was hard to accept because it was a big loss for the business. People wondered if it had anything to do with the fact that he was sick.
Nobody knows exactly what went wrong with The Duke. If you’re one of them and want to know how John Wayne died, here’s what happened.
How Did John Wayne Die?
John Wayne passed away on June 11, 1979. Since he was born in 1907, he was 72 years old when he died, as was already said. What was wrong with him? Well, stomach cancer was the main reason John Wayne died. The actor had a disease that could kill him for more than a decade. Only the person who is sick knows how hard and sad it can be.
Not to mention, this wasn’t the first time John Wayne had seen the disease. That does make sense, though! The experts in medicine forgot to start the chemotherapy. Why? It was said that the Duke was too weak to handle it. So, he agreed that he couldn’t get the experimental treatment and was therefore helpless. That was very bad luck.
John Wayne came up with the name “The Big C” for the disease he was fighting in 1964. After that, he went to surgery to have his left lung and four ribs taken out. After that, the actor looked like he had gotten much better. But over time, he began to have trouble breathing quite often. But that wasn’t a good sign. Things got worse because he didn’t stop using tobacco.
When John Wayne was taken to the hospital for treatment in his last days, all of his family members were there to be with him. In other words, no one ever left The Duke alone.
