Why Did Lalo Kill the Couple in Better Call Saul?

One of the rare television programs that ever makes the most out of its supporting cast is “Better Call Saul.” Even with their brief on-screen presence, these characters frequently have an enduring impression on viewers.

Occasionally, they are employed to go deeper into an unexplored area or enhance an already-existing component of a primary character’s personality. That’s exactly what happens in “Better Call Saul” with Mateo and Sylvia.

Although they only make a fleeting appearance in the opening of the sixth season, their role in the story will undoubtedly affect our perception of Tony Dalton’s Lalo Salamanca. All the information you require about Mateo and Sylvia is provided here.

Who Are Mateo and Sylvia?

In Chihuahua, Mexico, Mateo and Sylvia seem to be an average couple that live close to Lalo’s house. They leave the mountain after herding goats. The evening following the attempted murder, Lalo hobbles towards Mateo and Sylvia’s residence.

Upon spotting him, Sylvia emerges from the kitchen and offers assistance in getting inside her house and to a chair. He reassures her that his injuries are the result of an accident, allaying her worries. Mateo shows up as Sylvia brings him coffee.

He has a thick beard and is a big man. Mateo is instructed by Sylvia to cut his mustache off in honor of Don Eduardo (whose full name is Eduardo “Lalo” Salamanca), but Lalo stops him in his tracks and asks that he maintain the mustache and soul patch.

At this point, the scene begins to feel tense. Lalo is quite endearing, and it’s obvious that everyone around him, including his bosses, enjoy him. He seems like a giving man, which is one of the reasons why. Regarding Mateo’s teeth, he queries Sylvia.

It seems that he sent him to a physician to have them mended. It makes sense that Sylvia responds with thanks.

Lalo is a messianic figure who helps her and Mateo overcome their poverty, in their eyes. They were unaware that assistance from individuals such as Lalo is always contingent upon paying a high cost. And now Lalo has arrived at their door to claim the mentioned reward.

Lalo has a lot of charisma and seems to be giving, but he can also be really cruel and brutal. After Mateo finishes shaving, we begin to understand why Lalo came to this place and why he covered Mateo’s dental procedures. Mateo resembles Lalo in appearance.

Why Did Lalo Kill the Couple

Mateo and Sylvia are both definitely dead, even though it isn’t stated clearly. He takes the screw off a pair of scissors and takes hold of one of the blades while Sylvia makes Lalo another cup of coffee.

After killing Sylvia, he reportedly goes to the toilet, where Mateo has just finished shaving. They have a nearly identical appearance. Like Lalo, Mateo even has a gray streak directly over his brow. Lalo is said to have killed Mateo after that and taken his body to his estate, where he lights a fire.

Lalo has deduced that Gus Fring dispatched the assassins to target him personally. He wants his adversaries to continue thinking he is no longer alive. He seems to have found Mateo at this particular moment.

He devised a strategy to get around the problem because he anticipated that his adversaries would eventually come after him. Mateo’s body is completely destroyed by fire.

Since Lalo’s doctor performed the procedures on Mateo, Mateo appears to have the same dental records as Lalo, which is currently the only method for anyone to identify who the body belongs to. Now that everyone believes he is dead, Lalo may go on a covert road of retaliation.
