Woody Harrelson was born on July 23, 1961, in Midland, Texas. His full name is Woodrow Tracy Harrelson. His mother was a secretary. Her name was Diane. Charles, his father, was a hitman.

In 1964, his parents split up. After spending five years in jail for killing a grain dealer, Charles was found guilty of killing a federal judge in 1979 and given two life sentences. In 2007, Charles died in jail of a heart attack.

Woody had two brothers and sisters, Jordan and Brett when he was growing up. He said that his family was poor, but there was always food on the table. In 1973, they moved to Diane’s hometown of Lebanon, Ohio.

Woody went to Lebanon High School and finished in 1979. After graduating from high school, he worked at Kings Island amusement park for the summer. He then went to Hanover, Indiana, to go to Hanover College, which was a Presbyterian college at the time.
