After receiving a courageous diagnosis of stage III ovarian cancer in 2014, Pollex went on to become an ardent supporter of cancer awareness. She established the nonprofit group “Sherry Strong,” which aims to support those impacted by ovarian cancer and educate women about the signs of the disease.

“We were always living in fourth gear,” Pollex said to USA TODAY Sports at the time. We were running all the time. Along with traveling full-time with Martin, I managed his charity and a business. I didn’t ever quit.
For me, the biggest adjustment has been learning to live with a new normal, putting life on high speed, and realizing that your body can no longer function that way. Martin shared how the diagnosis completely rocked him as well.
“I was stunned at first. I felt like I was dreaming. It immediately brings everything into perspective. Martin added, “All this stuff I’ve been mad about before and thought was a big deal, it’s nothing,” to his earlier remark on how the diagnosis has altered his circumstances.
“The experience has been exhilarating.” It varies every day. You experience a range of emotions, from sadness to rage, asking yourself “why us?” Ultimately, though, we are just like everyone else who has had cancer.
Regretfully, in 2021 Sherry’s cancer did return. She and Martin, however, did not allow it to defeat them; instead, they simply grew more determined to further their charitable endeavors.
They had already founded the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation in 2007 as a charity for kids with pediatric cancer diagnoses. But after receiving a favorable diagnosis, Sherry founded SherryStrong.org.
The Relationship Status of Sherry Pollex and Martin Truex
In January 2023, Martin declared his separation with Sherry. Though he was adamant about sticking by his now-former girlfriend and being there for her in times of need, he maintained that the choice to separate was a mutual one.
But he did not go into detail as to why this action was done, considering Martin’s plea for seclusion so that they could move on from the breakup of a nearly 17-year-old partnership.
Although Martin and Sherry have not publicly disclosed the reasons for their separation, it appears that they are getting along well. As a matter of fact, the woman continues to hold her role as Vice-President of the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation, and she and her partner continue to put on a united face in their charitable endeavors.
