Who Is The Pirate King Gorian Shard In Mandalorian Season 3?

Who Is The Pirate King Gorian Shard In Mandalorian Season 3? The first episode of The Mandalorian’s third season, “The Apostate,” introduces the newest Star Wars antagonist, the pirate ruler Gorian Shard. Despite his quick introduction, it is evident that Gorian will be a thorn in Din Djarin’s side.

After being humiliated by Mando, it is likely that Gorian will continue to assert his influence on Navarro, where the New Republic has a weak foothold.

Based on the interactions between High Magistrate Greef Karga and the pirate Vane (portrayed by Marti Matulis), the magistrate and the pirate king have a history.

This could be problematic for Karga’s reconstructed city, which also serves as a trading hub, especially as he is averse to the New Republic gaining complete control of the system.

Greef Karga’s creations could be destroyed by the entrance of pirates onto Navarro. He appears to have turned a new leaf, so he’s determined not to lose everything he’s built.

Pirates are not uncommon in the Star Wars world, with characters like Hondo Ohnaka appearing in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

Gorian Shard, who is portrayed by Nonso Anozie, is not quite as monetarily motivated as Hondo, who was significantly less menacing and only interested in money.

He provided Greef Karga with funds to construct a saloon on Nevarro, which has now been converted into a school. When Vane arrived, this saloon-turned-school was a source of tension in the season three premiere of The Mandalorian.

Gorian Shard does not appear on-screen for an extended period of time, yet it appears that his reputation precedes him.

He had men prepared to attempt to seize Din Djarin in the Nevarro system’s asteroid belt, demonstrating some of his characteristics.

Shard is patient in waiting for Din to leave Nevarro and strategic in how he staggered the attack on Mando with his ships. Although Din ultimately shot down the majority of them, his strategy was solid.

Explaining the Issue of Piracy Following The Empire’s Fall

Piracy has existed since before the fall of the Empire, as seen by pirates like Hondo Ohnaka, who was able to continue engaging in shady transactions and thieving after losing his whole crew.

This, coupled with the New Republic’s inability to effectively police the galaxy, makes the galaxy more prone to criminal activity, which goes unpunished.

Due to the numerous conflicts fought to liberate the galaxy, there is a great deal of military equipment available for scavengers and pirates to collect and sell. It is little wonder that pirates like Gorian Shard rose to power with so few resources.

Gorian Shard’s involvement in this season of The Mandalorian will be revealed in later episodes, but it’s safe to say that Din Djarin and Grogu have not seen the last of the pirate king.

Hopefully, towards the end of The Mandalorian season 3, he will join forces with other smaller villains across the galaxy, resulting in a larger-scale confrontation.
