The highly anticipated follow-up to the original “Sing” film, which was released exactly five years ago, in December 2016, is titled “Sing 2.” The plot of the first movie centres on the koala character Buster Moon, played by Matthew McConaughey, who decides to hold a singing competition at his financially unstable theatre. People travel from far and wide to take part in a competition after an inaccurate flyer with a prize of one hundred thousand dollars is distributed throughout the city. The level of competition is much higher than anything Buster could have expected it to be.
In the sequel to “Sing,” many of the characters from the first movie are back to help Buster and his friends land a residency in a town that is quite similar to Las Vegas. The vocal group declares their intention to incorporate Clay Calloway, a former rock star, into their lineup, but it turns out that this will not be an easy task. The roles of Ash, Rosita, Meena, and Gunter are being played once again by Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon, Tori Kelly, and Nick Kroll, respectively, from the first film in the series.
In “Sing 2,” several new cast members make their debuts, including Taron Egerton as Johnny, Chelsea Peretti as Suki, Bobby Cannavale as Mr. Crystal, Nick Offerman as Norman, and Halsey. Clay Calloway’s voice is certainly familiar to anyone who listened to the radio in the 1980s or 1990s, or who listened to music on an iPhone in 2014. This is due to the fact that Bono, lead vocalist for U2, lends his talents to voicing the lion character. The rock musician, who is often seen wearing sunglasses, possesses one of the most instantly recognisable singing talents, which helped propel U2 to the top of the Billboard charts. On the Billboard Hot 100, Bono and company have two songs that are now ranked number one, and a total of 32 additional tracks have earned placements on the chart.
Not only did Bono offer his voice to Clay in “Sing 2,” but he also contributed an original song to the film. This shows the lengths to which Bono went to contribute to the project. The song “Your Song Saved My Life,” which is performed by Bono, is extremely meaningful to Clay, who recently experienced the death of his wife.
Although Clay is the one who performs the song in the movie, Bono mentioned in a “Sing 2” presser (as reported by The Hollywood Reporter), he stated that he believes that “it’s the people who hear the songs who rescue the performer’s life, actually. You make our lives more meaningful, and for that, we are eternally grateful.”
