Who Is Alex Murdaugh? What Are The Cases On Alex?
What’s Alex Murdaugh’s real name? You may already know that the Murdaugh Trials are happening. A 54-year-old man is being tried on charges that he killed his wife and son on June 7, 2021.
Alex Murdaugh, the main character, is very interested in what is going on. And a lot of people don’t know who he is, and a lot of people don’t believe in his past. So, we’re here to tell you about him and his history.
Alex’s story is like a gangster show, and since 2015, the whole Murdaugh family has been involved in something big and illegal. His family name, Murdaugh, is a well-known one in the legal field. District attorneys and lawyers who “supposedly” fought for justice and sent criminals to prison come from this family.
We can’t say for sure that every single member was part of a sneaky plan, but most of them were. It doesn’t seem like a coincidence that they have so many cases and charges against them. Here’s who Alex Murdaugh is: he’s the one who ruined the reputations of people who came before him as far back as 1910.
Who Is Alex Murdaugh?
Richard Alexander “Alex” Murdaugh was born in South Carolina in the year 1968, in the town of Hampton. There are different ideas about when he was born, but many sites say it was in 1958.
But his father, Rudolph Murdaugh III, started dating his mother, Elizabeth Libby Alexander Murdaugh, in 1957, and he has an older brother, so it’s not possible.
Alex finished his studies at the University of Southern California (USC) in 1990. In 1994, he got his law degree from the USC School of Law, which is the oldest law school in the Southwestern United States. After he graduated, he went to work for Peters Murdaugh Parker Eltzroth & Detrick, a family law firm (PMPED).
In 2022, the firm changed its name to The Parkers Law Group after recent events with the Murdaugh family and the death of John E. Parker. Alex married Margaret Kennedy Branstetter, also known as Maggie Murdaugh. They had two sons, Richard “Buster” Alexander Jr. and Paul Terry Murdaugh.
What Is Alex Murdaugh on Trial For?
Alex is stuck in a lot of cases and is already facing charges. But they are nothing compared to what he will be tried for starting on January 23, 2023. He is charged with killing his wife, Maggie Murdaugh, who was 52, and his son, Paul Murdaugh, who was 22. This is called a “familicide” charge. And if the charges are true, he could go to prison for up to 30 years without being able to get out.
Alex called 911 around 10 PM on June 7, 2021, and said that both his wife and son had been shot in the head. When he got home, he saw blood and pieces of brain all over the floor. The crime happened between 9 and 9:30 PM, according to the coroner’s report. Alex was with his mother, who had dementia. This was confirmed by the person who took care of her.
Alex was let off the hook for now by the police. They arrested him on July 14, 2022, and the grand jury charged him with killing his wife and son and having weapons. On July 20, 2022, he pleaded “not guilty” to the charges. The Sun says that Mark Keel, who is in charge of SLED, spent 13 months gathering evidence against the suspect.
To make a case, you need two things: proof, like a recording of Alex and Maggie fighting from Paul’s phone, and a reason, like wanting to get people to feel sorry for him despite the 80+ financial charges against him. Let’s look at the other charges against him quickly.

What Are The Cases On Alex Murdaugh?
Alex has over 100 financial charges as of December 2022. He was arrested for a few of them in October 2021. Tax evasion, stealing land, making false insurance claims, stealing money from his clients, a plan to kill himself for money, and selling drugs.
In addition to Alex’s murder charge, the Murdaugh family, which has now been killed, was supposed to stand trial for the deaths of Stephen Smith in 2015, Gloria Scatterfield in 2018, and Mallory Beach in 2019.
I wasn’t kidding when I said he was a gangster character. He’s like a mix of Walter White and Saul Goodman, but they didn’t kill their families. He made $14 million in nine years. Using his money and connections, he almost got away with everything before he started getting caught.
There are still a lot of charges to go, and the trial will go on for at least two more weeks. Let’s wait and see where this goes as new things are found every day.
