Ted TV Show: Release Date, Cast, And Everything We Know About The Prequel

Here’s all the information we currently know about the upcoming comedy series featuring Seth MacFarlane’s outrageous plush doll Ted, which will be available exclusively on Peacock.

There are already a ton of intriguing details regarding Peacock’s new Ted show, and Seth MacFarlane’s famed foul-mouthed stuffed bear is making a comeback in his very own TV series. Ted is about a living plush teddy bear that, via his rough and raunchy attitude, unites with teen John Bennett and helps him with the numerous obstacles of day-to-day life.

It is based on the critically acclaimed movie series of the same name. Following MacFarlane’s remarkable run of hits in theaters and on television, Ted went on to become a cultural phenomenon and even inspired a sequel a few years after its 2012 premiere.

Ted did very well with critics, and many applauded its bold and lovable humor despite its formulaic premise (via Rotten Tomatoes), unlike many of Hollywood’s more audacious comedies. Above all, though, Ted was a box office success, earning close to $550 million on a relatively modest budget.

A sequel was inevitable given its financial success, and 2015’s Ted 2 did well box office-wise even without the negative reviews. Ted 3 appeared inevitable, but it wasn’t until years of no updates that MacFarlane’s foul-mouthed stuffed animal made a comeback in a limited TV series on Peacock that functions as the third installment.

The Ted TV Series Release Date

The third Ted movie’s story was ultimately resolved in 2021 when it was revealed that Seth MacFarlane was creating a TV series based on the endearingly vulgar teddy bear. Ted’s story on Peacock started to emerge piece by piece, and in November 2022, a series of behind-the-scenes pictures revealed that Ted had completed filming.

Peacock has been making the most of its relationship with Universal Pictures, and IP shows like Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin and The Continental: From the World of John Wick have benefited from popular film series on the small screen.

Ted, the bear that despises thunder, will be making a comeback after more than ten years away when it launches on Peacock on January 11, 2024. Seth MacFarlane. Ted will launch all seven of its episodes at once, similar to many other Peacock original series that cater to binge-watchers. The release date for the event series was set for November 2023, but it’s not clear if the just ended Hollywood strikes had any bearing on that decision.

The Ted TV Story

Given how soon the program will premiere, a plot summary that captures the essence of what viewers may anticipate from Ted has been made public. The first movie’s flashback sequences, in which a young John Bennett (played by Max Burkholder) hopes his plush teddy bear will come to life, will be immediately followed by the events of the program. The episode, which is set in 1993, follows John as he works through the difficulties due to high school student while receiving some help from Ted.

Not only will Ted be John’s confidant and buddy, but he also follows him to school, where he helps many of John’s classmates with their difficulties by lending his trademark wit and bizarre comedy. Ted appears to be less cynical than the movies depicted him to be, and John’s thunder friend may experience personal struggles that will cause him to grow a little more jaded.

This was made clear in the teaser. Blaire (Giorgia Whigham), John’s cousin, will also be residing with the Bennetts while she pursues her college education, and she may pose a risk to the impressionable couple.

Cast Of The Ted TV Show

Given his extensive involvement in the creative process, it seemed inevitable that Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, The Orville) would return to lend his distinctive voice to the title character. Nevertheless, the remaining cast members from the movie series were not expected to return, and this was confirmed after the announcement of the show’s cast for the Ted TV series. Since it’s a prequel that takes place in 1993, Max Burkholder (Parenthood) took over in the lead role of John Bennett, which Mark Wahlberg had previously played.

Alanna Ubach (Euphoria) was chosen to play John’s mother, Susan Bennet, while Scott Grimes (The Orville) was chosen to play his father Matty Bennett. A few other parts from the movie series were also recast.

It is quite unlikely that any other well-known characters would make a comeback because the series is a prequel to the films, although a ton of new characters have already been introduced, such as:

  • Giorgia Whigham as Blaire
  • Ara Hollyday as Andrew
  • Liz Richman as Polly
  • Jacob Zelonky as Derek
  • Dustin Wayne as Mike
  • Francesca Xuereb as Erin
  • Erin Moore as Jessica
