The Real Story of the No-nonsense Geordie Guitarist for Duran Duran

It was supposed to be an emotional reunion: Andy Taylor was supposed to return to Duran Duran for one performance to mark the new romantic legends’ long-overdue induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Instead, the performance was cancelled. Instead, the event was dominated by the singer Simon Le Bon reading out a portion of a letter from the band’s third Taylor (after bassist John and drummer Roger), which revealed that the guitarist has stage-four metastatic prostate cancer and was unable to travel to Los Angeles from his home in Ibiza due to his physical frailty. Le Bon read the letter out loud during the ceremony.

In that letter, after expressing his “sincere admiration” for his former bandmates and delight in the honour, and after assuring that there was no bad blood between the old band members — “only pure love” — Taylor, 61, thanked Tracey, his longtime manager, for all of her support throughout the years.
