The Crown Season 6 Release Date – Which Historical Events Will Be Covered in the New Season?
The sixth and final season of The Crown, which depicts Queen Elizabeth II’s life and reign, is now in development and will be aired by Netflix in 2023. It is the only season of the series to be produced after Queen Elizabeth II’s death on September 8, 2022.
Netflix has officially announced that the sixth and final season of The Crown will indeed be the show’s last. When the program originally started, that was the initial intention, but for a time there, things changed, and The Crown was supposed to finish with season five instead.
Fortunately, that’s no longer the case thanks to Peter Morgan, the show’s creator, who changed his mind in July 2020. If you’re wondering why that may have happened, here is his official Netflix statement:
“As we started to talk about the storylines for series five, it quickly became apparent that returning to the original plan of six seasons would be the best way to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story.”

The Crown Season 6 Release Date Speculations
Netflix has not yet confirmed when The Crown season six will return to our screens, but based on previous releases, we anticipate that new episodes will debut in November 2023. Due to the fact that filming for season six was halted after the demise of the Queen, things may be a little different this time around.
During an interview with Deadline, writer Peter Morgan elaborated on this decision, stating, “The Crown is a love letter to her, and I have nothing to add other than respect and silence.” I anticipate that we will also cease filming out of reverence.”
Who Are the Members of the Cast of The Crown Season 6?
On September 2, Deadline reported that The Crown has landed the characters of Prince William and Kate Middleton for Season 6 after an extensive casting process. Two actors will portray the former as he grows from a teenager to a young university student: Rufus Kampa as a 15-year-old struggling to cope with the death of his mother, Diana, and Ed McVey as a young adult courting the future Duchess of Cambridge after meeting her at St. Andrews in 2001.
Meanwhile, Meg Bellamy, a rookie, will portray Middleton. All three actors will make their cinematic debuts in the series. The first photographs from the set of McVey and Bellamy in action were released on March 17, and the first official stills were released on April 27.
Along with Olivia Williams’ Camilla Parker Bowles, Khalid Abdalla’s Dodi Fayed, Salim Daw’s Mohamed Al-Fayed, and Bertie Carvel and Lydia Leonard’s Tony and Cherie Blair, Imelda Staunton’s Queen Elizabeth II, Lesley Manville’s Princess Margaret, and Jonathan Pryce’s Prince Philip will return.
Which Historical Events Will Be Included in Season 6 of The Crown?
With the release of the fifth season, we can now make some educated guesses about what historical events we might expect to see in The Crown’s sixth season. We were shocked that Princess Diana’s death was not covered in the fifth season, which allows plenty of events to unfold in season 6.
- Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed’s deaths
- The millennium
- 9/11
- One day in rehab for Prince Harry
- Princess Margaret’s death
- The death of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother
- Iraq’s War
Because of the death of her late sister, Princess Margaret, in February 2002, the early 2000s were some of Queen Elizabeth’s most difficult years. The Queen Mother died a month later, in March 2002, at the age of 101.
Review of the Crown Season 5: the Monarchy and the Program Struggle to Remain Relevant
The Royal Family was still grappling with the aftermath of Lady Diana’s death prior to the deaths of two of her closest family members. Prince Harry was challenged by his father, Prince Charles, when he was 16 years old, after finding that he had been consuming cannabis and drinking alcohol on a daily basis. Prince Harry was transferred to Featherstone Lodge, a heroin rehab clinic in Peckham, to learn about the risks of drug and alcohol misuse.
Outside of the United Kingdom, Republican George W Bush was elected as the 43rd President of the United States. The tragic events of 9/11 transpired during his first year in office, eventually pushing the US and its allies into the Iraq War and the War on Terror.
