Shawn Rhoden, 2018 Mr. Olympia passed away at the age of 46 on November 6, 2021. The bodybuilding icon, who was disqualified following sexual charges, died of a heart attack.

Rhoden: One of the Biggest Stars in the Bodybuilding World
Rhoden was born in Jamaica’s Kingston. In 1990, he immigrated to the United States and resided in Maryland. In 1992, he chose to pursue a career in bodybuilding after being inspired by former Mr. Universe Yohnnie Shamburger. In 2010, he received his IFBB Pro card. In 2011, he placed eleventh in his Mr. Olympia debut. The Sun claimed that he reached third place in 2012 and has since remained in the top five of the tournament each year.
In 2018, Rhoden succeeded seven-time Olympia champion Phil Heath as Mr. Olympia. At the age of 43 years and five months, Rhoden is the eldest bodybuilder to win the renowned title.
How Did Rhoden Die?
Rhoden apparently passed away due to a catastrophic heart attack. On the other side, social media users speculate about the cause of his death. One user remarked, “The use of steroids, growth hormone, and insulin most definitely contributed to his enlarged heart. This is typically the reason in bodybuilding.” Someone else remarked, “He’s been drinking for decades; I’m not sure why this is shocking or even newsworthy.”

“Young males will experience far more heart attacks in the future,” shared one commenter. Another authored, “High BMI reduces lifespans. It is taxing on the organs. They may have low body fat percentages, but they are dangerously obese.”
Alcohol Addiction and Sexual Accusations
His personal life was fraught with ups and downs. After his father, Lloyd, passed away in 2002, he experienced a period of alcohol dependence. Lenore Carroll, his buddy, helped him conquer his drinking.
In 2018, Rhoden was married to Michelle Sugar, but they divorced owing to personal troubles and adultery charges. Rhoden was surrounded by problems after he was accused of sexually abusing a female mentee in Salt Lake City, Utah, in October 2018, shortly after winning Mr. Olympia.
In Utah, he was charged with rape, object rape, and sexual abuse the following year. Later, he was disqualified from the 2019 Mr. Olympia competition, as well as future contests.
