Gerald Joseph Blavat (July 3, 1940 – January 20, 2023), also known as “The Geator with the Heater” and “The Big Boss with the Hot Sauce,” was an American television personality. An American DJ and performer were instrumental in getting “oldies” played on the radio.

In the 1960s, he became famous for introducing acts like the Four Seasons and the Isley Brothers to a wider audience after hosting live dances in Philadelphia and then starting his own independent radio show.  Blavat was born to a Jewish father and an Italian mom in the city of Philadelphia’s South Side.

Friend A.J. Mattia and Mr Blavat’s longtime companion of more than 30 years, Keely Stahl, have confirmed that he passed away on Friday morning at Jefferson-Methodist Hospital.

Myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune neuromuscular disease, combined with other medical issues, proved fatal.

“Jerry proudly said, ‘Life is precious, and I am happy,'” read a statement released by the family on Friday. If I’m happy, I hope everyone else is, too… Even more than music, his passion for his hometown of Philadelphia was unrivalled.

Nothing made him more proud than the influence Philadelphia music had around the world, and he was proud of this great city.
