IPL 2020 postponed indefinitely due to Coronavirus

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has canceled the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the time being indefinitely due to worldwide spread of Korana virus infection.

A day after the announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend the lockdown till May 3, the IPL chief spoke to all the franchise owners and informed that it is not possible to organize in these circumstances at the moment.

In a release issued by the BCCI on Thursday, it is not possible to organize this event keeping in mind the health and safety of the country as well as everyone involved in the event. Along with the BCCI, all franchise owners, sponsors and other stakeholders have also agreed to postpone IPL 2020 until the event is secured.

The BCCI said that it is constantly monitoring the situation and the situation is also being reviewed as to how long the IPL can be organized. For this, the central government will continue to seek guidelines from state governments and other regulatory bodies of states.

This will be the first time that the IPL, which started in 2008, will not be played in the summer season this year. Till now all the 12 editions of IPL have been played between March to May.
