Izou, like the other commanders, does not fully fully absorb Whitebeard’s final order during the battle, but he carries it out as his father’s instruction, sparing the rest of his crew and leaving him alone in front of the entire Marines.
Even though Izou and the other commanders told Akainu not to, he decided to force Ace to battle him as they were retreating. Ace gets killed at that point.

Eventually, they were led to the second-floor treasure room, where someone was observed caring for their severe wounds. With relatively slight injuries, Izou defeated a number of the Beasts Pirates’ rank-and-file members.
The CP0 members greeted him as he made his way down to the basement floor. They said that they would not typically allow the remaining Whitebeard Pirates to wander free, but they were going back to their original mission of apprehending Nico Robin and dealing with the Whitebeard Pirates.
