Police have announced that a 14-year-old boy who slumped on the grounds of a West Lothian school died of natural causes. Hamdan Aslam, a student at St Kentigern’s Academy in Blackburn, died in hospital on Tuesday after growing ill.
Hamdan, from Harthill, had a pre-existing cardiac ailment that had never been identified, according to his family. They said that his death might have occurred at any time and that no one was to blame for the loss of their “beautiful boy.”
“We want to reassure Hamdan’s friends and our community that this was an entirely natural death that could not have been predicted,” the family said in a statement issued by their lawyer, Aamer Anwar. “There is no one to blame for his loss; it was God’s will,” they continued.
The emergency services were dispatched to the school after the S3 student collapsed on the school premises during lunch. He was transported to the hospital but expired shortly thereafter.
Police Scotland stated that a post-mortem examination conducted on Thursday confirmed that Hamdan perished of natural causes. Newspapers and the Internet were rife with rumors and suppositions about the cause of his demise.
The family of Hamdan pleaded with the public to put an end to the rumors, which they claimed were exacerbating their sorrow. They stated, “We are aware that Hamdan’s friends and teachers are grieving deeply, and we urge those who have spread rumors on social media to stop.” It is untrue and exacerbates our grief.
“Please remove the comments, as they are detrimental to the children, instructors, and our family, who have been left profoundly traumatized and devastated. Our family will be eternally grateful to Hamdan’s instructors and companions for doing everything in their power to save his life.
As with any abrupt fatality, the procurator fiscal has been notified.
