Dr. Death Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Trailer, and More
Dr. Death Season 2 Release Date: A Peacock show called Dr. Death was based on Laura Bell’s famous Wondery podcast. It premiered on July 15, 2021, and was picked up for a second season a year later.
The first season followed what happened as the podcast looked into the real story of Christopher Duntsch, a neurosurgeon in Texas who was known for cutting up his patients and killing two. Many of his patients became quadriplegic for life. Other actors who played Dr. Death were Grace Gummer, Christian Slater, and Alec Baldwin.
They were all Duntsch’s coworkers and fellow doctors. At the same time, AnnaSophia Robb played Michelle Shughart, a young assistant district attorney who was determined to stop Duntsch from hurting more patients.
In Season 2, Dr. Death will adapt the plot from the third season of the podcast, which is about the crimes of charming surgeon Paolo Macchiarini, also known as the “Miracle Man.” An undercover reporter wants to talk to Macchiarini because he is known for coming up with new ways to do things.
From that fateful meeting on, he has lost all power over his life. People are in for a wild ride if the source material is any indication. Find out more about the story, the cast, the trailer, the release date, and more below.
Dr. Death Season 2 Release Date
The second season of Dr. Death will be on Peacock on December 21, 2023. With a Peacock Original, Peacock will put out the second season of Dr. Death on its streaming service.
Peacock renewed the show on July 14, 2022, and it has been revealed that from now on, Dr. Death will be an anthology series. CEO of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming and President of Scripted Content, Lisa Katz, said this about the new season:
“The first season of ‘Dr. Death’ blew us away with its look into the scary, strange mind of Dr. Christopher Duntsch and the people who were trying to stop him.
The latest episode of this very addicting anthology series is about a surgeon who travels the world and charms the medical world. We know we’re in good hands with our friends at Wondery, UCP, Patrick Macmanus, and new season EP/showrunner Ashley Michel Hoban.
Is there a Trailer for Season 2 of “Dr. Death”?
There is, of course! On October 20, 2023, the first official preview for Season 2 of Dr. Death came out. The movie is just under a minute long, so it’s a very short taste of the story to come. But we’re sure there will be more trailers. Watch the video below for now while you wait for those:
What’s the Second Season of “Dr. Death” About?
The plot will be based on “Miracle Man,” which is also the main story of the third season of the podcast. Paulo Macchiarini, who is also known as the “Miracle Man,” is a skilled and charming surgeon who seems mysterious.
Benita Alexander, an investigating reporter, is interested in him because his methods are new and the talk of the town. They hit it off right away, though, and the more Benita learns about the man, the more she gets lost.
On the other side of the world, a group of doctors who were working with the “Miracle Man” find out what he has been up to and lose faith in Paolo.
When asked about Season 2’s themes, showrunner Ashley Michel Hoban said, “I am so honored to have the chance to add this fascinating story to the ‘Dr. Death’ universe.”
We’re going global this season to show that institutions failing to protect patients is a problem all over the world, but every day there are heroes who stand up and fight for change. I can’t wait to tell our fans about this story of love, lies, difficult characters, and, of course, the creepiness that is “Dr. Death.”
Who is making Season 2 of “Dr. Death”?
Ashley Michel Hoban, a director and writer, will be in charge of Season 2 as the showrunner. Before writing and producing Season 1, Hoban was in charge of creating Elle Fanning’s Hulu show The Girl From Plainville, which was also based on a true story.
As executive producers, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, and Taylor Latham will work with Hoban. They will be joined by Aaron Hart, Hernan Lopez, and Marshall Lewy, who work for Wondery, the podcast company that made Dr. Death, Dirty John, and The Shrink Next Door.
Patrick Macmanus created the show and was the writer, showrunner, and executive producer on Season 1. He will now return as an executive producer through his Littleton Road Productions name as part of his overall deal with UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. Lisa Gase will be the last executive producer on the list.
She directed House M.D. and Once Upon a Time, and she will be in charge of the first four episodes. The shows Euphoria on HBO and One of Us Is Lying on Peacock both had Morrison as the director. Sheila Belsey will be in charge of the last four shows.
She has directed episodes of The Walking Dead on AMC and Shadow and Bone on Netflix. The show is made by Universal Content Productions, Littleton Road Productions, Escape Artists, and Wondery.
Who is in Season 2 of “Dr. Death”?
Paulo “Miracle Man” Macchiarini, the new doctor in town, will be played by Edgar Ramirez. One is for the movie Carlos, and the other is for The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Ramirez is up for both of them.
He has also been in movies like Zero Dark Thirty, The Bourne Ultimatum, and Domino. Mandy Moore, who used to be a pop star and is now on This is Us, will play Benita Alexander, the reporter who gets involved with the shady doctor.
Moore also signed on to create and star in Twin Flames, a show based on a Wondery podcast. It will be available on Hulu. Luke Kirby is now part of the group as well. Kirby is said to be playing the lead role of “a cardiovascular surgeon working at a world-class hospital in Sweden.”
He is under a lot of pressure because he has questions about Dr. Macchiarini’s groundbreaking surgeries. Kirby is best known for his Emmy Award-winning part as Lenny Bruce in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a critically acclaimed Prime Video show, and his supporting role in the reboot of Gossip Girl.
