Amphibia Season 4 Release Date: Has the popular cartoon show Amphibia been picked up for a fourth season? How likely is it that Disney would make a spin-off show? Outside of Japanese anime, there aren’t many cartoon shows that can be popular all over the world on social media and stay popular for years.
That’s how special Amphibia has been. Now, Disney’s hit Froggy show is getting ready for its season 3 end, which will air later today. For a release schedule, click here.
But as soon as a big show ends, people all over the world start to wonder what will happen next. Will the show come back for more adventures, or is it time to say goodbye for good?
Amphibia has not been picked up for a fourth season. Creator Matt Braly has already said that the third episode will be the last one.
Amphibia Won’t Be Back for Season 4, the Show’s Author Says
Even though rumors and fake posts are spreading like wildfire on social media, the author of Amphibia, Matt Braly, has said more than once that the show will end with the 18th episode of the third season.
In August 2020, Braly did an Ask Me Anything on Reddit, where he said, “This [series] is a three-act story, and I have the story set up for three seasons right now.”
Braly said that this was the plan from the beginning of making Amphibia, but that “there was never a guarantee that we’d get 3 seasons, so I would never judge another showrunner for doing things differently.”
“I’ve always had this three-season story in my head. This show is so crazy about the number three that it could be called “three-crazy.” There are three races, three girls, and three gems. Three seasons just felt right, but there was also a bit of story drive that I felt needed to be wrapped up. Matt Braly, as reported by The Wrap.
Alex Swanson, the show’s storyboard artist, also said on Twitter in March 2022 that season 3 would be the last. He wrote, “Amphibia’s last season starts this Saturday.”
During the recent press tour for the last three episodes of the third season, the fate of Amphibia and any dreams for a fourth season were dashed.
A Sequel Series to Amphibia Remains a Distinct Possibility
Based on what we know from Amphibia’s author, the show will never return for a fourth frog-filled season. However, there is a chance that the franchise as a whole could come back in the form of spin-offs. Braly told The Wrap, “I’d be happy to go back to that kind of world if it makes sense for where we leave the characters at the end of season 3.”
“Obviously, I can’t talk about any of that in detail, but as long as the heart of it stays the same, I don’t mind. If Disney ever makes shorts or spinoffs, I would love to see them. I love comic books and books in general. I’d love to do an art of books, and that’s the next idea I’ll try to get off the ground. Matt Braly, as reported by The Wrap.
But it looks like Braly has already decided on his next project, which we’re sure the whole Amphibia community will back and support just as much as the famous series. As he told Screen Rant, “Like any creative person, I have a million ideas, and I’m trying to figure out which one is calling to me the most.”
“This is a great time for cartoons. I think that a lot of people are pushing the medium in really interesting ways. I would love to try a limited series or a movie, something bigger and more epic because it was so much fun to do those big, dramatic scenes of Amphibia.
Whether it’s “True Colors” or the last two episodes of Season 3, “All In” and “The Hardest Thing,” it’s been a joy to work on those. I think I found out that I really love that place.” Matt Braly, as quoted on Screen Rant.
