A Message From Brianna Ending Explained
In the BET+ original movie A Message From Brianna, Leonard and Kathy are the proud parents of two-year-old Brianna. After moving into their new house—which also happens to be Leonard’s grandparents’ house—the couple, played by former NFL player Vernon Davis and Asia’h Epperson, are content and have a nice life until odd things begin to happen.
At first, it was just a door left open and the dogs barking at an invisible object, but when young Brianna gets involved, things start to get more serious. Although Brianna is just two years old and still crawls rather than walks, her parents are worried about her growth.
However, their physicians say there is nothing physically wrong with the girl and that she will grow up eventually. As time passes, we witness Brianna emerge from her cot at night, explore her home, and appear to be taken by invisible forces that take her away when her parents aren’t watching and then bring her back.
When one of the family’s two dogs is eaten alive and the second dog is held responsible for the killing, the situation becomes even more horrific. The parents discover Brianna is possessed by a demon later on when an invisible force tries to suffocate Kathy with a pillow.
In addition, the house appears to have a portal to a terrible underworld.
When Leonard is drawn into the portal, he sees the face of a young woman named Crystal, whom he knows from his early years as a girl his grandparents looked after when he was living with them but who vanished for no apparent reason.
A flashback tells us that when Leonard’s grandmother discovered that Bernard, his grandfather, was raping Crystal, she killed her out of jealousy, and Bernard buried the body. It’s very freaking awful!
The grandmother was murdered by the vengeful spirit of Crystal, and Bernard, who is currently suffering from dementia, has been living with the secret for twenty years.
In the present, a police officer arrests Bernard and hands over his possessions to Leonard, explaining that they discovered Crystal was pregnant when they dug up her bones. A picture of Crystal is among Bernard’s possessions, and Brianna calls it “Mama” upon seeing it.
The Ending of “A Message From Brianna” Explained
Kathy basically tells Leonard that they must give Brianna away because she cannot bear a demon baby who isn’t even hers in the first place after seeing Crystal having sex with Leonard and then posing as Brianna’s mother figure in her dream.
That must be fair. With the intention of leaving Brianna there permanently, we watch the parents take her to a church before departing.
After six months… They did it, after all. They returned home after actually leaving their child at a church. On the steps of the church, we watch them doing the dishes after supper as if they hadn’t left their daughter alone.
They are also arranging a sexual encounter for later that evening, and as Kathy gets ready for a shower, she tests positive for pregnancy. She exclaims joyfully, “I can’t believe I’m pregnant again,” and then, to her surprise, she turns around to find Brianna standing in her toilet.
The spirit of Crystal then attacks Kathy, and Leonard discovers that Crystal has taken over the bedroom when he enters.
When the pastor visits Leonard the following day to see how he is doing, Leonard says, “Pastor Hunt, thank you for taking care of Bri until Kath -” and the pastor cuts him off by saying, “I had a feeling she’d come back around.”
Alright, so I suppose everyone was conspiring to have Kathy possessed by the ghost of Crystal. Then, as he briskly passes the house, Bernard, the elderly Alzheimer’s patient who was arrested for rape and hiding Crystal’s body, looks up at Kathy, who is possessed by Crystal, and waves to his grandson Leonard. We hear him remark, “I see we have the same taste.”
