Tiffany Haddish Says Her Dating Life Is “Amazing” After Marrying Herself: “I Have Boundaries Now”

Comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish says her dating life has never been better — and it all started after she married herself. Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the PEOPLE and InStyle Drive-By F1 Party in Las Vegas on Nov. 21, the Girls Trip star revealed that her unique “self-marriage” has transformed the way she approaches love and relationships.

A Commitment to Herself

Haddish, 45, recently celebrated a “self-marriage” ceremony in episode five of her new Peacock docuseries, Tiffany Haddish Goes Off. The ceremony saw her walking down the aisle and making vows to honor and love herself — a symbolic commitment that she says has reshaped her outlook on dating.

“Since I married myself, my dating life has been amazing,” Haddish said. “First of all, I’m never alone — never alone. And it’s been a lot easier because I have boundaries now. We have limits. And these men have to fall in line with what our requirements are.”

The actress shared that her new self-love journey hasn’t stopped her from dating — but it has changed her standards.

“They gotta have a good credit score because they need to be responsible,” Haddish told PEOPLE. “I don’t need you to have more than me — it’s okay if you have less — but you better have that credit score right. That’s your grown-up report card.”

Her decision to marry herself came years in the making. Haddish first had the idea in 2018 while struggling in an unhappy relationship. “I was like, ‘I’ll be my husband. I could take care of me better than you could,’” she explained in the docuseries.

As the holiday season approaches, Haddish said she’s planning to celebrate her new chapter with a solo trip to the Bahamas.

“Normally, I serve the homeless and cook collard greens and mashed potatoes,” she shared. “But not this year. This year, I’m taking me. I’m married, so we are going out on a little trip — a little married trip. A solo married trip.”

The Emmy-winning performer said the biggest lesson she’s learned from her journey is the importance of giving herself the love she once sought from others.

“I started realizing all these things I want from somebody else, I need to be giving to me,” she told USA Today. “And if I’m able to do that, when that person shows up, it’s going to be so easy for us to come together.”

What’s Next for Tiffany Haddish

Haddish continues to expand her creative footprint with Tiffany Haddish Goes Off, which offers a mix of humor, self-reflection, and raw honesty. The actress also teased updates about Girls Trip 2, hinting that filming will take place in an “exotic” new location.

All six episodes of Tiffany Haddish Goes Off are now streaming on Peacock.
