The long-awaited live-action adaptation of Street Fighter has finally entered the ring. Paramount Pictures debuted the first teaser trailer for the upcoming film during The Game Awards 2025, giving fans their first look at Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and other iconic fighters from Capcom’s legendary video game franchise.

A Nostalgic Yet Gritty Reimagining

Set in 1993, the film brings the beloved arcade saga to life with a mix of nostalgia and high-stakes action. According to the official synopsis, estranged fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are drawn back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament — a brutal competition where glory, betrayal, and destiny collide.

“But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s game over,” the studio teased.

Street Fighter has been adapted for film and animation before — most notably the 1994 cult classic starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Ming-Na Wen — but this reboot aims to deliver a more grounded narrative and cinematic realism while honoring the source material’s energy.

The teaser hints at a story deeply rooted in the franchise’s mythology, featuring iconic moves, rivalries, and the philosophical struggle between power and honor that defines the Street Fighter universe.

“This isn’t just a fighting tournament — it’s a battle for redemption,” director Sakurai said in a statement. “Every character has something to prove.”
