Princess Beatrice Granted New Royal Role as Father Andrew Officially Stripped of Titles

0

Princess Beatrice has taken on a new royal responsibility, joining her uncle Prince Edward in supporting a charitable organization close to the late Prince Philip’s heart. The announcement comes just as King Charles III formally stripped Prince Andrew of his remaining royal titles and privileges through an official Letters Patent issued earlier this month.

A New Chapter for Princess Beatrice

Beatrice, 37, has been appointed Deputy Patron of the Outward Bound Trust, a U.K.-based charity that helps young people from all backgrounds build confidence, resilience, and leadership through outdoor adventure. The appointment was confirmed during a special event at St. James’s Palace in London on November 6, 2025, attended by Beatrice and her uncle, Prince Edward, who now serves as the charity’s Royal Patron.

The role marks a significant expansion of Beatrice’s charitable portfolio. She has been a Trustee of Outward Bound since 2019 and has long been involved in its youth programs. The move also aligns with her uncle’s work, as Prince Edward continues his father’s legacy — Prince Philip served as the organization’s lead patron for decades before his passing in 2019.

Continuing Prince Philip’s Legacy

At the charity’s London reception, Martin Davidson, Chief Executive of Outward Bound, expressed enthusiasm for the royal appointments. “With The Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Beatrice working alongside us, we’re embarking on a new chapter — one where every young person has the chance to test their limits, build confidence, and discover that anything is possible,” Davidson said.

The event, attended by the charity’s supporters and young participants, also featured speeches from students Sadie and Leo of Walsall Academy, who shared their experiences from an Outward Bound adventure in the Lake District earlier this year. Their stories highlighted how the charity’s outdoor programs foster teamwork and personal growth among young people.

Royal Duties Amid Family Changes

Beatrice’s new position arrives during a turbulent period for her family. Just days before the announcement, King Charles issued a Letters Patent — a formal legal decree published by the Crown Office in the U.K.’s official Gazette — that officially removed her father, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, from using the title of “Royal Highness” or holding the dignity of Prince.

The decree, dated November 3, 2025, marks the culmination of a long process following Andrew’s withdrawal from public duties in 2019 amid controversy. The Gazette entry stated: “The King has been pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm to declare that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor shall no longer be entitled to hold and enjoy the style, title, or attribute of ‘Royal Highness’ and the titular dignity of ‘Prince.’”

Despite the ruling, Beatrice and her younger sister, Princess Eugenie, 35, will retain their royal titles under the 1917 Letters Patent issued by King George V, as both remain daughters of a son of a sovereign.

Maintaining Her Role in the Monarchy

While not a full-time working royal, Princess Beatrice continues to hold an important constitutional role. Following King Charles’s accession in 2022, she was appointed a Counsellor of State, allowing her to act on behalf of the monarch in certain official capacities should he become temporarily unable to perform his duties.

Her continued involvement in royal and charitable activities has positioned her as one of the younger generation’s most dependable members of the royal family, balancing public service with a private life largely focused on her family and business ventures.

Family Life and Nobility

Beatrice has been married to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi since 2020. The couple share two daughters — Sienna, 4, and Athena, 10 months — and co-parent Edoardo’s son Christopher Woolf, 9, from a previous relationship.

Although Beatrice’s daughters do not hold royal titles, they inherit noble status through their father’s Italian lineage. Edoardo, the eldest son of Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, will one day inherit the 18th-century Villa Mapelli Mozzi in northern Italy. Upon her marriage, Beatrice became an Italian “Contessa” (Countess) and “Nobile Donna” (Noble Lady), titles that extend to her children.

Looking Forward

With her new royal appointment, Princess Beatrice continues to carve her own path within the modern monarchy. Her role at Outward Bound highlights her dedication to empowering young people — a cause she has championed throughout her public life.

As her father’s royal chapter officially closes, Beatrice’s new position symbolizes both continuity and renewal within the royal family — honoring the late Prince Philip’s legacy while embracing a new era of service under King Charles’s reign.
