Country star Megan Moroney is closing out 2025 with confidence, charisma, and rhinestones to spare. In her new PEOPLE StyleWatch holiday cover story, the 28-year-old singer opens up about her whirlwind year — from taking fashion cues from Dolly Parton to addressing rumors about her love life and revealing what inspires her next album, Cloud 9, arriving February 20, 2026.

Channeling Her Inner Dolly

Known for her glittery stage outfits and signature “emo-cowgirl” energy, Moroney says her stage persona pays homage to Dolly Parton’s unapologetic glamour.

“When I ask myself in the mirror, ‘Is this too much?’ I’m like, ‘No. Dolly would do it,’” she laughs.

While her onstage look leans toward big hair and bigger sparkle, Moroney’s offstage style tells a different story — one of comfort and simplicity.

“I’m a matching sets girl,” she admits. “Give me UGGs and a hoodie, and I’m good. Anytime I’m not on stage, I’m like, ‘Do not put fake hair or lashes on me — I need to breathe.’”

Moroney recently teamed up with lifestyle brand Boys Lie for a capsule collection inspired by her laid-back wardrobe. But when it comes to performing, she’s all in on Parton’s philosophy of bold, fearless fashion.

From Sorority Stages to the CMAs

Moroney’s journey from college open mics to country music’s biggest stages has been nothing short of meteoric. Her 2022 viral single “Tennessee Orange” earned her a record deal and introduced her to millions on TikTok.

This year, Moroney tied for most-nominated artist at the 2025 CMA Awards — a milestone she describes as “surreal.” She also released chart-toppers including “6 Months Later” and her duet with Kenny Chesney, “You Had to Be There.”

“Winning my first VMA and performing on that stage was unforgettable,” she said. “You look around and see Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga, and you’re like, ‘Wow — I’m really here.’”

Famous Friends and Dream Collaborations

Moroney’s growing circle of music peers includes Lana Del Rey, who joined her on stage at the Hangout Music Festival for a surprise duet of “Tennessee Orange.”

“She’s a Disney princess in real life,” Moroney said, calling Del Rey “sweet and supportive.”

Her creative friendship with Ed Sheeran has also blossomed, after the two performed together in Nashville and later reunited for an intimate Brooklyn show.

“We’ve been sending songs back and forth,” Moroney said. “When the time and song are right, a collaboration will happen.”

Still, there’s one artist at the top of her bucket list — Taylor Swift.

“I find it inspiring that she’s made 12 albums that all sound different,” she said. “I’d love to thank her for showing women how to own their careers — maybe over drinks someday.”

Setting the Record Straight on Dating Rumors

With fame comes speculation, and Moroney’s personal life has become a favorite topic for fans. After being linked to fellow artists Morgan Wallen and Riley Green, and more recently to NFL star Nick Bosa, Moroney says her focus is firmly on her career.

“I’m not dating right now at all,” she clarified. “I’m too busy.”

Still, she doesn’t shy away from writing about love and heartbreak — even if fans read between the lines.

“Being honest in my songwriting got me here,” she said. “I never let the possibility of speculation stop me from expressing how I feel.”

Looking Ahead to Cloud 9

Moroney’s upcoming album Cloud 9 — teased with the single “Beautiful Things” — represents her most confident chapter yet. The record blends her trademark emotional honesty with humor, sass, and self-assurance.

“It’s written from a place where my feet are really planted,” she said. “This is my favorite project so far — I’d ditch the first two albums for this one.”

The Georgia native hopes her songs will resonate with fans who are navigating love, loss, and growing up.

“If someone hears one of my songs and feels less alone, that’s all I want,” Moroney said. “I love what I’ve created — and I’m ready to sing it every night.”
