Jessica Simpson Spends Thanksgiving with Family and Estranged Husband Eric Johnson: “Family First”

Jessica Simpson is keeping her family close this holiday season — including her estranged husband, former NFL player Eric Johnson.

The 45-year-old singer and entrepreneur revealed that she celebrated Thanksgiving with Johnson and their three children — Maxwell (13), Ace (12), and Birdie (6) — at her mother Tina Simpson’s home. Despite announcing their separation in January 2025 after nearly a decade of marriage, Simpson emphasized that family remains her top priority.

“Of course I spent it with Eric,” Simpson told TMZ. “It’s my kids’ father. And all their grandparents were there — they have a lot of ’em. Family first.”

A Holiday of Love and Respect

When asked what advice she’d offer to others navigating breakups or divorces during the holidays, Simpson responded with her trademark sincerity.

“Unconditional love’s important,” she said. “No matter what, your kid is half the other person, and you should always have respect in what you say around them so they can have a good perspective on it.”

Simpson added that her mom, Tina, did most of the cooking while she and her sister Ashlee Simpson enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys game — a Thanksgiving tradition in the Simpson household.

Although the singer and Johnson are no longer together, they continue to co-parent seamlessly. Simpson shared that their kids recently attended the Yale vs. Harvard football game with their dad in Connecticut — a special moment, since Johnson played football at Yale before going pro.

“They had fun doing that. It’s where their dad played,” Simpson said. “And they saw a huge billboard promoting my show, so they were like, ‘Mom!!!’ and sent me pictures.”

Embracing a New Chapter

In an earlier interview with PEOPLE, Simpson reflected on the unexpected turns in her life after her split.

“I feel like we get caught up in numbers. Like, ‘At 45, would I think that I’d be single again as a mom of three?’ Absolutely not,” she said. “That was not how I planned it. But it’s just a part of what destiny holds for me.”

The “With You” singer has been keeping busy, releasing parts one and two of her Nashville Canyon EP earlier this year. She’s also set to perform live at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut on Dec. 7, marking another milestone in her return to the stage.

Speaking with Extra at the October premiere of All’s Fair — in which she has a cameo — Simpson joked that she’s enjoying her newfound independence.

“I think I’m into younger men at the moment,” she said with a laugh. “When you’re newly separated, younger guys kinda like the confidence of an older woman. I’m discovering that — and I’m having fun!”

Through it all, Simpson remains focused on her children and her evolving journey as both an artist and a mother.
