Scarlett Johansson in Final Talks to Join The Batman Part II

0

Four years after her departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Scarlett Johansson is reportedly in final negotiations to join Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated sequel, The Batman Part II.

According to sources close to the production, Johansson is nearing a deal to star opposite Robert Pattinson, who will reprise his role as the brooding Bruce Wayne. The film is set to begin production next year, with Johansson first completing work on her recently announced project, The Exorcist.

If confirmed, the casting would mark Johansson’s first entry into the DC Universe and her return to the superhero genre following her long-running portrayal of Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow in Marvel Studios’ Avengers franchise.

A Major Boost for Matt Reeves’ Gotham

The addition of Johansson would bring significant star power to The Batman Part II, a project that has faced multiple delays since its initial announcement at CinemaCon in April 2022. The film’s release was first set for October 2025 before being pushed to October 1, 2027, as Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin continued developing the script.

Reeves’ first Batman installment, released in March 2022, became both a critical and commercial success, earning $770.3 million worldwide and revitalizing Gotham’s cinematic universe with a darker, noir-inspired tone. The film also spawned a successful Max spinoff centered on Colin Farrell’s Penguin, further expanding Reeves’ Gotham narrative.

What Johansson Brings to the Role

While details about Johansson’s character remain under wraps, insiders suggest her casting signals a major narrative expansion within Reeves’ universe. Given her proven range—from action heroine to dramatic lead—fans are already speculating about possible roles, including new or reimagined versions of classic Gotham figures.

Johansson’s addition would place her alongside a powerhouse ensemble that already includes Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Barry Keoghan as a mysterious Arkham inmate widely believed to be The Joker.

Johansson’s Continued Momentum

Johansson remains one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars. Beyond her blockbuster past with Marvel, she recently starred in Jurassic World: Rebirth and made her directorial debut with Eleanor the Great, a heartfelt drama starring June Squibb.

Her potential move to Gotham would further cement her as one of the few actors to bridge both Marvel and DC’s cinematic worlds—a transition that could attract a massive audience to Reeves’ sequel.

The Batman Part II is scheduled to release in October 2027, with filming expected to begin in 2026.
