“Stranger Things” Star Gaten Matarazzo Says Living with Finn Wolfhard While Filming Final Season Was “Disgusting”
Los Angeles, CA — Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo is getting candid about what it was really like living with his co-star Finn Wolfhard during the filming of the show’s final season — and let’s just say it wasn’t exactly the cleanest experience.
Appearing on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s podcast “Dinner’s on Me,” the 23-year-old actor opened up about sharing a home with Wolfhard while shooting Netflix’s fifth and final season of the hit sci-fi series.
The “College Dorm” Phase of Stranger Things
Matarazzo, who has played the lovable Dustin Henderson since age 12, compared their living situation to a chaotic college setup, admitting the apartment’s condition quickly spiraled out of control.
“I would look around, like, three months after we were living together and be like, ‘This place is disgusting,’” Matarazzo recalled. “‘What are we doing?’”
When asked which of the two was the messier roommate, Matarazzo laughed and said they were equally responsible for the chaos.
“We kind of matched each other’s energy,” he said. “At first, the mess stayed in our rooms, but eventually it spread everywhere. Laundry piled up, dishes stacked in the sink — it was bad.”
Roommates Turned Lifelong Friends
Despite the clutter, the Honor Society actor said the year of cohabitation strengthened their friendship. The pair, who have grown up together on Stranger Things, eventually learned to keep their place semi-presentable — especially when friends wanted to visit.

“We’d be like, ‘No. Do not come within 10 feet of our home,’” Matarazzo joked.
By the end of their lease, the two had adjusted, calling the experience “so much fun” and a “bittersweet way” to close their time working together on the groundbreaking series.
The End of an Era in Hawkins
The Stranger Things cast is preparing to bid farewell to Hawkins, Indiana, as the series enters its final chapter. Netflix released the first four episodes of Season 5 on November 26, with three more dropping on Christmas Day (Dec. 25).
The two-hour series finale will premiere on December 31 and also screen in 350 theaters across the U.S. and Canada, giving fans a rare chance to experience the ending on the big screen.
“Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect — dare we say, bitchin’ — way to celebrate the end of this adventure,” creators Matt and Ross Duffer said in a joint statement.
As for Matarazzo and Wolfhard, the actors may have outgrown their messy apartment days, but their shared memories — both on and off the set — are likely to last well beyond the Upside Down.
The final season of Stranger Things is now streaming on Netflix, with the finale set to arrive on New Year’s Eve. Stay tuned for more entertainment updates at InvestRecords.com.
