Kandi Burruss Opens Up About Divorce from Todd Tucker: “It’s Been Brewing for a While”

Reality TV star and singer-songwriter Kandi Burruss has officially filed for divorce from her husband, Todd Tucker, marking the end of their 10-year marriage.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum, 49, revealed during an Amazon Live broadcast on November 24 that she filed for divorce the previous Friday, November 21 — a decision she says has been a long time coming.

“I filed Friday, but this is something that has been brewing for a while,” Burruss said candidly. “All the times you’ve been seeing me online [all smiles] means nothing. I’ve been going through it. Life has been life-ing me.”

Kandi Shares Emotional Update

The Grammy-winning songwriter opened up to fans about the emotional toll of her split, admitting that while she tries to stay positive, the process hasn’t been easy.

“Obviously, going through a divorce is definitely not the easiest thing,” she shared. “Sometimes you’re cool … then sometimes you have your moments of sadness.”

Burruss said she has struggled with keeping such a personal matter public, especially after years in the spotlight. “In real life, I don’t like those moments to be shared with the world,” she told viewers. “But I’m sharing with my Amazon family today — I am up and down.”

Co-Parenting and Family First

Despite the split, Burruss emphasized that she and Tucker remain united as parents to their two children — Ace, 9, and Blaze, 6.

“We are parents together. We are co-parenting together,” she said. “We’re trying to make this transition as smooth as it could possibly be for our kids. That is our main concern.”

The couple even spent Thanksgiving together, just days after celebrating Blaze’s birthday on November 22.

A Decade of Love and Business

Burruss and Tucker met in 2011 while filming The Real Housewives of Atlanta, got engaged in 2013, and tied the knot in April 2014. Over the years, they collaborated on multiple projects, including their restaurant Old Lady Gang and reality spin-offs documenting their family life.

In her statement to PEOPLE, Burruss said the decision to divorce was painful but necessary:

“This is a difficult and emotional time, but my focus remains on protecting my peace, being the best mother I can be, and co-parenting with love and respect. I’m stepping into a new chapter pouring into my work, my family, and my own growth.”

Looking Ahead

While the split has sparked speculation online, Burruss urged fans not to believe every narrative. “Everyone’s making their own story about what’s going on,” she said. “Sometimes things just don’t work out. It just is what it is.”

As she embraces this next chapter, Burruss says she has “no regrets” and remains grateful for the life she built with Tucker.
