Meghan Markle Opens Up About Making Mistakes and Rejecting Perfection: “There’s No Such Thing as Perfect”
Meghan Markle is embracing imperfection and self-growth as she reflects on public scrutiny and life in the spotlight. In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar published Wednesday, the Duchess of Sussex shared how she gives herself “grace” to make mistakes — and why striving for perfection no longer appeals to her.
Learning Through Mistakes
The Suits alum, 44, discussed how her perspective on mistakes has evolved, saying that setbacks have become an essential part of her growth.
“You learn not to do it again,” Markle explained. “If it all goes swimmingly, you don’t learn from it. If you don’t learn anything, you’re not going to grow.”
She added that she applies the same philosophy to parenting her two children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.
“I watch them face things that feel completely insurmountable every day,” she said. “But you can remember and say, ‘I know it seems really hard right now, but trust me, that’s going to come so easily soon.’ I can give myself the same grace as a founder.”
Rejecting Perfection

Markle went on to emphasize that she’s no longer chasing an unrealistic standard.
“There’s no such thing as perfect. I, too, get to make mistakes,” she said.
The As Ever founder even joked about how being flawless doesn’t sound very enjoyable.
“There isn’t a lot of fun in trying to be perfect. So why try to do that if you want to have fun?” she quipped.
Balancing Public Life and Privacy
In the candid interview, Markle opened up about learning to navigate fame while maintaining a private family life with her husband, Prince Harry.
“I love being able to do both,” she said. “I think the moment that you start making all of your personal decisions based on external judgment, then you lose your authenticity.”
Markle also revealed that over time, her “boundaries became stronger” and that she developed new ways to protect herself emotionally.
“Whether that’s self-preservation or it’s just growing up,” she reflected.
Support from Prince Harry

The Duchess also spoke lovingly about Harry’s unwavering support, calling him her “biggest protector.”
“He loves me so boldly, fully, and he also has a different perspective because he sees media that I wouldn’t,” Markle said. “No one in the world loves me more than him.”
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2021, Markle and Harry have settled into life in Montecito, California, where they are raising their two children and pursuing new creative ventures, including Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As Ever.
A New Chapter of Grace and Growth
Despite years of scrutiny, Markle said she’s learned to focus on personal authenticity rather than public perception.
Her interview reflects a shift toward self-acceptance — a message she’s keen to share with others navigating the pressures of visibility.
As she summed it up: “It’s okay to make mistakes. That’s how you grow.”
