AJ McLean Invites Taylor Swift to Join Backstreet Boys in Las Vegas After Viral “Elizabeth Taylor” Mashup
AJ McLean has extended a special invitation to Taylor Swift to perform live with the Backstreet Boys in Las Vegas, following the viral success of a fan-made mashup combining Swift’s “Elizabeth Taylor” with the boy band’s classic hit “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”
The Viral Mashup That Started It All
The trending remix by content creator Lydia Getachew exploded online after McLean shared it on his Instagram, where he was seen singing and dancing along to the mashup. The video quickly went viral, amassing over one million views on TikTok and sparking calls from fans for an official collaboration between the pop icon and the beloved boy band.
McLean’s Instagram caption — “Come on now, you know one of us had to! @taylorswift!” — caught Swift’s attention. The singer jumped into the comments, writing, “OH HI AJ OH MY GOD,” a playful response that instantly sent fans into a frenzy.
Getachew herself was thrilled, commenting, “OMG you using my mix JUST MADE MY WEEKEND 🥹😭🔥 thank you for the love!”

In a new interview with TMZ on November 11, 2025, McLean spoke about the viral moment and revealed that he’d love for Swift to take the stage with the Backstreet Boys during their upcoming Sphere Las Vegas residency.
“I don’t know if she’d ever do it,” McLean said, “but I think Taylor [Swift] would absolutely destroy it. She is a fan, and we’re massive fans of hers. She’s been so kind to my daughters anytime we’ve had the chance to meet her — she’s just the best.”
The singer officially invited Swift to appear at one of the group’s upcoming performances, adding, “Taylor, if you want, come see the show first so you know what’s going on. And then you can figure out if you want to come up with us. We’re not going to say no.”
Backstreet Boys Extend Las Vegas Residency
Following the success of their “Into the Millennium” residency this summer, the Backstreet Boys announced an additional seven shows at The Sphere Las Vegas for December 2025 and January 2026. The performances will feature immersive visuals and reimagined versions of the group’s biggest hits, including “Larger Than Life,” “As Long As You Love Me,” and “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”
If Swift were to join them on stage, it would mark one of the most talked-about crossover moments in pop music — bringing together two generations of chart-topping icons. “That would break the planet,” McLean joked.
A Mutual Admiration Between Pop Icons
This isn’t the first time the Backstreet Boys and Taylor Swift have shared a connection. Swift, known for her love of ’90s nostalgia, has long referenced the boy band in interviews and playlists, while McLean has publicly praised Swift’s songwriting and artistry over the years.

“She’s one of the best artists out there — period,” McLean said in an earlier interview. “Taylor has mastered the art of storytelling in pop music. We’d be honored to perform with her.”
Swift, 35, has been on a global high with her record-breaking “Eras Tour” and the release of her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl. The track “Elizabeth Taylor,” inspired by the legendary actress, has become one of the standout songs from the project — and now, thanks to the viral remix, it’s found a second life among Backstreet Boys fans.
Fans React to the Possibility
Social media has been buzzing since McLean’s comments, with fans rallying around the idea of a joint performance. Hashtags like #BackstreetSwift and #ElizabethsBack have been trending across platforms, with one fan writing, “If Taylor Swift and the Backstreet Boys actually perform together, we will never recover.”
Another fan joked, “It’s not just Backstreet’s Back anymore — it’s Taylor’s Back too!”
What’s Next for the Pop Legends
As both acts continue to dominate headlines — the Backstreet Boys with their ongoing tour and Swift with her upcoming Grammy nominations — a collaboration could be one of the biggest musical events of 2026.
Whether Swift takes McLean up on the Vegas invitation remains to be seen, but fans are already dreaming of the moment when the “Anti-Hero” singer might belt out Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) alongside one of the most iconic boy bands of all time.
