Does Divergent Have a 4th Movie? The Future of the Franchise
The Divergent series, which is based on Veronica Roth’s books, first appeared in theaters amid the height of the popularity of young adult dystopian fiction. Every adolescent in the 2010s seems to be curious in what would happen to someone similar to them in a post-apocalyptic scenario.
More significantly, they were able to empathize with the characters on the screen as they dealt with surprisingly common issues.
Other outstanding books failed to make an impression on screen, but The Hunger Games franchise soared to the top of the charts and essentially acted as the impetus for the other dystopian literary adaptations.
Like The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner, Divergent got off to a great start, but as the series went on, people were less engaged because of some artistic license and poor decisions. The box office results drastically declined by the time the third movie, Allegiant, was released.
There was still much discussion on how to wrap up the series in a comfortable way, even after the decision was made to reschedule the second portion of the finale. There were several discussions and even a discussion with Netflix.
However, there is still no firm response regarding what is being done, even after Allegiant was released eight years ago. Many people are asking if a final movie (or any kind of closure) would ever be released in the Divergent series, which is making a resurgence on Netflix.
What is Divergent Series About?
With its love story and lots of action sequences, the Divergent trilogy is exciting, but everyone should recognize a much bigger message. Tris (Shainele Woodley) and her brother Caleb (Ansel Elgort) must finally decide how they will live out the rest of their lives in their society during the Choosing Ceremony in the first movie.
They are given five choices: Erudite for the intelligent, Candor for the honest, Dauntless for the courageous, Abnegation for the selfless, and Amity for the kind. However, Tris stands out from the others.
The administration is concerned about Tris’s ability to blend in with multiple groups rather than having a single characteristic. She ultimately decides for Dauntless, but she quickly understands that it is her uniqueness that will make a difference.
Since adolescence is known to be a crucial time in a person’s life, it is very amazing that excellent role models in that age range are shown in films as making decisions. The idea that no one should feel pressured to be a specific way in order to make things work out around them is explored in the Divergent trilogy.
More significantly, Woodley’s character exemplifies the idea that a morally upright person does not always know everything. She also demonstrates that it is acceptable to be different. This may seem like a simple phrase, but it conveys a lovely and significant message to kids who are regularly asked what they want to do and become in the near future and who are offered college packets.
Despite being told to back down and follow orders, Tris and her pals continue to question the current quo. Applying this concept to our everyday lives says a lot. Teens, young adults, and even kids need to be taught that if they have the heart, are committed enough, and try their hardest to help others see the need for change, they can change their society.
Will There Be a Fourth Divergent Movie?
After the popularity of the first movie, everyone assumed that the actors, filmmakers, and producers would see Roth’s story through to the end. There was little doubt that the Divergent trilogy would be able to keep up with the success of The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner.
Sadly, when Allegiant was released in the spring of 2016, that mentality vanished, and the movie’s earnings paled in comparison to those of the previous two.
The thought of Ascendant seeing a theatrical release just died out, especially with a new director and a ton of negative reviews claiming that the franchise is essentially struggling to stay up with other movies.
A TV movie was briefly discussed in the hopes that it might result in a popular series, but the performers appeared to put an end to that discussion very soon.
How the Actors Thought About Ending It?
Miles Teller, who portrayed Peter in the Divergent series, stated in an interview with Screen Rant that he would not create a TV film merely to complete the plot. When Woodley learned of the potential, he adopted a similar position.
It makes logical that the performers would be hesitant to switch to television only to give the series a spin-off program after three films with larger budgets and higher expectations. Therefore, the continuation eventually failed after the actors expressed their views and moved on to other projects.
The Divergent Series’ Reasons for Failure
Many people are curious about what exactly went wrong with the Divergent series, given the success of the first two movies and the fact that the third movie wasn’t a total bust.
Its lack of popularity is not really an excuse, given it was released in the same year as The Maze Runner, The Giver, and Mockingjay Part 1. The question is: what eventually caused the franchise to fail while so many sci-fi aficionados were practically feasting on dystopian worlds?
If you examine the movies and Roth’s books, you will notice that the directors and screenwriters chose to change the plots of some of the stories or cut them too short so that viewers did not have a connection to any of the characters.
Fans of The Maze Runner series, however, seemed to find that to be of little concern because the series managed to complete Thomas’ plot.
When the final book was divided into two movies, some critics have theorized that it failed because it attempted to emulate movies like Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games. Many viewers of Allegiant just accepted the film’s conclusion since it lacked a compelling cliffhanger that would have left them wanting more.
For whatever reason, while many fans seem content to claim that the book was just superior and have come to terms with the fact that the series won’t be returning anytime soon, some fans are still outraged about the lack of closure.
