who is lamar from bmf based on (1)

BMF, the newest drama series on Starz, has been Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s passion project for quite some time. Fans of hip-hop are familiar with the famed Flenory brothers and the transformation of their time organization into an entertainment corporation.

In the 1980s, as teenagers, Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory (Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr.) and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory (Da’Vinchi) began their careers as small-time heroin dealers in Detroit. From there, they would become two of the country’s largest narcotics dealers.

Even though their BMF tale is just beginning, they are already confronting formidable obstacles. However, is their principal adversary Lamar (Eric Kofi-Abrefa) based on a real person?

How Accurate is ‘BMF’?

Randy Huggins and 50 Cent wanted to ensure that the series was as accurate as possible, now that the Flenorys and their family were on board.

Huggins told Urban Hollywood 411, “I did take some liberties, but everything is based on a story.” Obviously, you cannot include people’s names. Clearly, some locations may have changed.”

Nonetheless, Huggins refused to stray too far from actual events. “I don’t believe there’s a single character in there that I’m unfamiliar with,” he said. “I may have to exercise some creative license to make a piece of art more noticeable.

It may be necessary for me to use artistic license to make a scene funnier than it actually was, but such is the nature of storytelling. There is no documentary here.”

Is Lamar Based on a Real-life Person?

Lamar, portrayed by Kofi-Abrefa, is arguably one of the most captivating characters on BMF. Lamar, a character like Omar (from The Wire), has an undiagnosed mental illness and was discharged from a mental health facility during the rise of the 50 Boyz in Detroit.

The persona is based on actual individuals. Huggins created a composite figure from a variety of individuals who inhabited the Flenorys universe during the era. Huggins told TVLine, “It’s not only a drug show.” “Lamar and I delve into mental disease.

In the 1980s, when [President] Reagan shut down all of these state-run mental health facilities, individuals like Lamar were released with nowhere to go. Perhaps he entered the asylum believing it would be easier than prison, but he was already mentally ill and deteriorated.

Did Lamar Shoot Southwest T?

Terry was shot in the face as he exited his girlfriend’s house at the conclusion of the pilot, to the horror of BMF fans. He was brought to the hospital for emergency surgery, but the traumatic encounter left him blind in one eye. Fans are now convinced that Lamar was responsible for the shooting.

Fans are aware that Lamar and his group are in conflict with the Flenorys and the 50 Boyz. Lamar is also enraged by the fact that Big Meech and Monique (Arkeisha “Kash Doll” Knight) were dating when he was in prison and later at a mental health facility.

Fans are sure that he shot Southwest T because the faceless shooter was photographed wearing the workman’s boots he frequently wears.
