Gerald Joseph Blavat was an American disc jockey and performer who was born on July 3, 1940 and died on January 20, 2023. He was also known as “The Geator with the Heater” and “The Big Boss with the Hot Sauce.”
He was a big part of getting oldies music played on the radio. As a Philadelphia icon, he got his start by hosting live dances in the area. This led to his own independent radio show, where he introduced the Four Seasons and the Isley Brothers to a wide audience in the 1960s.
Several famous musicians from the suburbs of Philadelphia, like Daryl Hall and Todd Rundgren, said that Blavat inspired them to become musicians.

Early life
Jerry Blavat was born to a Jewish father and an Italian mother in South Philadelphia. Roberta, his sister, was born two years before him. During World War II, his father was a bookie and his mother worked at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard.
Is Jerry Blavat in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
Blavat was put into the Hall of Fame of the Philadelphia Music Alliance in 1993. Along the Avenue of the Arts in Center City, you can find his name on the Walk of Fame. Later, in 1998 and 2002, he was put into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Hall of Fame.
