What is Currently Known About the Netflix Original Series “1899,” Including the Plot, the Cast, and the Trailer

Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, the creators of the psychologically difficult and equally enthralling German science fiction thriller television series Dark, have collaborated once more on the production of the epic period, gritty mystery drama 1899.

By the time the third season of Dark had finished streaming on Netflix, the show had garnered an enormous amount of viewership. After developing Netflix’s first German original series, the creators of Dark, Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, realised they had a high bar to reach with their second project, Dark.

While the co-creator was working on Dark in November 2018, during the migrant crisis in Europe, Netflix made an announcement about a new project that would be produced for Netflix as part of their overall arrangement with the streaming service. This announcement was later confirmed during a press conference held by Netflix. An Instagram user by the name of Baran bo Odar revealed that Friese had completed writing the screenplay for the episode’s pilot.

What is the Plot of 1899?

In the narrative set in the year 1899, many people from Europe immigrate to New York in the expectation of finding a better life on a different continent. Their journey is cut short when the captain of the ship receives a peculiar message from the Prometheus, a ship that everyone believes has been abandoned behind.

Since then, nobody has been able to locate it. The captain has made the decision to take an alternative route, despite the fact that he had assured the passengers that they would be in New York within seven days.

Due to the fact that they are from various regions of Europe, the passengers on the ship have difficulty talking with one another. The passengers hail from countries such as Poland, France, Germany, Spain, and England.

This results in cultural tensions on the ship, which are exacerbated by the fact that odd things are happening there. It ultimately leads to the discovery by the passengers of a network of secrets that are significant to them.

In an interview with Deadline Hollywood, Friese discussed the impact that the immigration issue in Europe and the Brexit vote had on the show. He said:
