He was born into a Ghanaian family where his father ran a paint company and his mother was a seamstress. He learned how to sew from his mother. He was born in Rockford and went to high school at Boylan Catholic. In 1998, he got his diploma from there.

Virgil got his Bachelor of Science in Social Science in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002. After getting a job as an intern at Fendi, he was sent to the company’s office in Rome.

There, he met Michael Burke, the CEO of Louis Vuitton. Off-White was started by Virgil in 2013. Virgil Abloh said that the company was “the colour off-white, which is the grey area between black and white.”

He told investors and critics about this, and they all liked what he did. At the end of 2018, Off-White was named the world’s most popular fashion label. It was better than Gucci. Abloh has also worked with IKEA to make apartment furniture and tote bags. Markerad was the name of the line, and it came out in 2019. He was named the artistic director of menswear for Louis Vuitton in 2018.

Virgil Abloh was honoured by LVMH on November 30 with a spin-off fashion show with the theme “Virgil Was Here.”
