The Karate Kid Release Date: Who Will Star in the Movie?

The Karate Kid Release Date: The fifth season of Cobra Kai premiered last week, and now Sony has announced a new Karate Kid film, complete with a set release date.

The Karate Kid Release Date

The premiere date for the film is slated for June 7, 2024. Sony has confirmed that the upcoming movie will be a continuation of the original franchise, but no other details about the cast, crew, or plot have been revealed as of yet.

The Karate Kid

The first film in the series, starring Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, was released in 1984. In the first film, the audience met the title character, a skinny youngster who is the target of continuous bullying at the hands of Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and his gang.

Daniel seeks the help of Mr Miyagi (the late Pat Morita), a karate instructor renowned for his unusual tactics, and quickly finds himself better equipped to take on Johnny and the rest of Cobra Kai.

After the success of the first film, three more installments were released within the “Miyagi-verse.” Daniel and Mr. Miyagi travel to Okinawa in The Karate Kid II, where he faces off against a new adversary, Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto). Both Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita came back for The Karate Kid III.

In contrast, Daniel wore a Cobra Kai gi in the third installment after being lured away from Mr. Miyagi by the promises of Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith). The last Karate Kid film was 1994’s The Next Karate Kid. In it, Hilary Swank plays Julie, a new pupil whom Mr. Miyagi takes under his wing.

The Karate Kid has gone on to become a beloved and iconic film since its initial release. A remake with the same name starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan was released in 2010.

The basic premise of the story is the same in both versions (a bullied boy seeks out martial arts lessons from a mystery maintenance man), but the latter features some new twists. Notably, it’s set in China, and Dre (Will Smith) studies kung fu rather than karate.

The Netflix original series Cobra Kai is the most current installment in the series’ ongoing continuity. As a YouTube Original, the series debuted in 2018. Both Zabka and Macchio reprised their roles, although this time the plot centred on Johnny.
