Some early adopters of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have noticed that the main lens of the rear camera vibrates uncontrollably in third-party applications with camera functionality, such as Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram, resulting in shaky video. This issue was discovered shortly after the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. It does not appear that this issue is affecting the default camera application in any way.
Since the iPhone 14 Pro versions were released on Friday, users have been reporting the issue across a variety of platforms, including Twitter, Reddit, TikTok, and the MacRumors Forums; however, it is currently unknown how widespread the issue is or what the primary cause of the issue is. It is likely that the primary lens’ “second-generation” sensor-shift optical image stabilisation is malfunctioning owing to a software problem, but this is just speculation on our part. The main lens of iPhone 14 Pro versions contains optical image stabilisation.
Luke Miani, a YouTuber, stated that he had the problem on one of the iPhone 14 Pro Max units that he was evaluating. Miani uploaded a video that demonstrates the problem, in which the primary lens of the device can be seen bouncing erratically. He stated that as a consequence of the incident, the lens has been unable to focus accurately in subsequent uses, including while using the Camera app. Miani stated that he went to an Apple Store in order to exchange the smartphone for a new one and that he was successful in doing so.
Apple could include a patch for the problem in the iOS 16.1 beta if it turns out that the issue is caused by a software defect. Apple has not yet responded to our request for a statement regarding the matter, despite the fact that we have contacted the business and asked whether it is aware of the issue and/or researching it.
If owners of an iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max are concerned about the possibility of damaging the rear camera system, they should refrain from opening the camera in applications including as Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram until the situation has been fixed.
