The star of “Shang Chi,” Simu Liu, has replied to the criticism that Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino have levelled on Marvel flicks.
Both directors have been very outspoken about their opinions towards Marvel films, and in 2019, Scorsese stated that superhero films are “not a movie.”
Tarantino has recently shifted his focus to the marvelization of Hollywood, saying that fictional superheroes have surpassed the fame of the actors who represent them in popular culture.
“You have all these actors who have grown famous playing these roles,” remarked the director of Pulp Fiction. “You have all these renowned actors portraying these characters.” However, they are not famous actors or actresses… Stardom has found its way to Captain America. Or, the god Thor is a star.
In response, Liu, who played the main character in the Marvel film “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” defended superhero movies by highlighting the financial success of these films as well as their goal to be more diverse.
“If the only gatekeepers to a movie star were Tarantino and Scorsese, I would never have had the opportunity to star in a picture worth more than $400 million,” Liu wrote on Tuesday about the circumstances under which she would not have had the chance to star in such a production (November 22).
“I am overjoyed by the brilliant way in which they directed the film. They are authors of the highest calibre. However, they are unable to look down their noses at me or anyone else.
The actor went on to compliment the inclusive nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe while also pointing out that Hollywood has not always been as accepting of diversity throughout its existence.
“There is no such thing as a flawless film studio,” he went on to say. “But I’m proud to be working with a company that makes constant efforts to improve diversity on screen by creating characters that inspire and inspire people from all communities around the world.” “But I’m proud to be working with a company that makes constant efforts to improve diversity on screen.”
“I adored the Golden Age too… but it was so white,” she said. “Fucking white.”
In recent years, Tarantino has become increasingly vocal about his disapproval of Marvel movies. The previous month, he discussed the reasons why he would never pursue a career in directing.
“In order to carry out activities of this nature, you must first be hired. I am not a member of the staff. When asked about his employment status, he told the Los Angeles Times at the time, “I’m not seeking for a job.”
Following his recent declaration that the current period of cinema is “the worst in the history of Hollywood,” the director has recently made some comments on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
