Pretty Baby Brooke Shields: Brooke Shields appears almost overcome with emotion by the new documentary about her life.
Monday, we spoke with Brooke at LAX about her upcoming documentary, “Beautiful Baby Brooke Shields” — the same title as the 1978 film that catapulted her to fame and created a great deal of controversy over her portrayal of a child prostitute.

Brooke Shields was sexually abused by a powerful Hollywood executive more than three decades ago. She never spoke, however. “No one will believe me,” she believed at the time. “People did not believe these tales at the time. I believed I would never again work.”
It is a narrative she tells in the new two-part documentary, Brooke Shields: Beautiful Baby, which premieres on Hulu on April 3. Her sexualized roles in films such as Beautiful Baby (in which she portrayed a child prostitute) and The Blue Lagoon made her a topic of intrigue, anger, and a pop-culture phenomenon.
It is also a story on the value of speaking the truth.
In this week’s issue of PEOPLE, the 57-year-old actress says, “Making the documentary, you put it all together, and it’s a miracle I lived.”
“It took me a long time to digest that,” Shields recalls of the assault she experienced in her twenties. “I am angrier today than I was before able to be. If you’re terrified, you’re justifiably so. Those are frightening scenarios. They need not be violent to be frightening.”
She was a recent Princeton University graduate and unemployed at the time, the “lowest moment” of her career, as she recalls.
Following dinner with a Hollywood executive (“I thought I’d get a movie and a job”), he asked her to order a cab from his hotel room. He assaulted her there. According to the documentary, she states, “I didn’t fight.” “I just froze.”

Pretty Baby Brooke Shields Release Date
The streaming service will kick off the month with Beautiful Baby: Brooke Shields, a two-part Sundance debut documentary.
It is set to premiere on April 3, 2023, and follows the actress over the course of her career, from being sexualized as a child to the wisdom she has gained from decades of working in Hollywood.
- Tiny Beautiful Things, Hulu’s adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s novel of the same name, will air on April 7.
