Peter Billingsley a Christmas Story: Where Did They Shoot The Christmas Story?

Peter Billingsley a Christmas Story

A Christmas Story is a 1983 Christmas comedy film directed by Bob Clark and based on Jean Shepherd’s semi-fictional anecdotes in In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash and Wanda Hickey’s Night of Golden Memories And Other Disasters. It stars Melinda Dillon, Darren McGavin, and Peter Billingsley. “24 Hours of A Christmas Story” airs annually on TNT and TBS from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day. It’s a top Christmas movie.

The 1983 picture earned positive reviews from critics. It won two 1984 Canadian Genie Awards. The Library of Congress selected it for the National Film Registry in 2012 because it was “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

A Christmas Story was filmed in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood. A Christmas Story House is a restored and reconfigured building that matches the soundstage interiors.

Set in December 1940, the film is presented in vignettes, with adult Ralphie Parker narrating about a Christmas when he was 9 in Hammond, Indiana. Ralphie wanted a Red Ryder 200-shot Carbine Action Range Model air rifle for Christmas. Ralphie’s mother, teacher Miss Shields, and a Santa Claus at Higbee’s all warn him, “You’ll shoot your eye out.”

Ralphie receives some gifts on Christmas morning, but not the rifle. Ralphie’s father (“The Old Man”) directs him to a hidden box in the corner that contains the rifle. He attaches a target to a metal sign in the backyard and fires; the BB hits him in the face. First thinking he’s shot his eye out, he realises the BB only knocked off his glasses and searches for them in the snow, stepping on them and breaking them.

His mother believes his lie about a falling icicle breaking his glasses and takes him to the bathroom to clean up. Ralphie sleeps with the gun by his side as his adult self reflects on it being the best Christmas present he’s ever gotten.

A Christmas Story Release Date

At first, A Christmas Story was thought to be a “sleeper” movie. It came out a week before Thanksgiving in 1983 and made about $2 million in its first weekend. Roger Ebert gave the movie three out of four stars at first, but later gave it four stars and put it on his list of “Great Movies.” He said that the movie didn’t do very well because holiday movies weren’t popular at the time.

Most of what Vincent Canby says is bad. The review in the New York Times said that “Most of the big funny parts of the movie are just very busy. Even though Mr. Billingsley, Mr. Gavin, Miss Dillon, and Tedde Moore, who plays Ralphie’s teacher, are all very good actors, they are not as funny as actors in a TV situation comedy “.
