Nick Carter, a member of the Backstreet Boys, was allegedly involved in a sexual encounter with a female fan while she was 17 years old and riding on his tour bus in 2001.
According to a report from Billboard, Shannon “Shay” Ruth, who is currently 39 years old, filed a civil action against the artist who is 42 years old at a court located in Nevada yesterday (Thursday, December 8).
The woman said that she had waited more than 20 years to file accusations because she was terrified of being punished for her decision.
She claimed that Carter singled her out from a crowd of female fans searching for signatures following a Backstreet Boys performance in Tacoma, Washington, and that she was the one he chose to sign her album. After allegedly taking the alleged victim to the bus, where he allegedly served her an alcoholic beverage that he referred to as “VIP juice,” the alleged victim stated that he then repeatedly raped her.
The complaint that Ruth’s attorneys filed stated that “He informed the plaintiff that she would go to jail if she told anyone about what happened between them.” Ruth is the individual who is being sued.
“He asserted that he was Nick Carter and that he possessed the authority to carry it out. The plaintiff did not report Carter’s offences for a good number of years because he made her subject to a variety of threats.
Ruth is said to have become infected with the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus (HPV) as a direct result of the alleged assault, as stated in the lawsuit.
In addition, the lawsuit was submitted on behalf of three additional unnamed accusers who state that they were victims of similar assaults by Carter between the years of 2003 and 2006. Allegedly, each of these three women was given drink before being coerced into having sex with the singer before they were all compelled to engage in sexual activity with him.
At the time of the claimed crime, one of these three accusers, Ruth, was the same age as the other two.
In a statement that was distributed to Billboard, the legal representative for Carter, Michael Holtz, refuted the charges.
“This statement about an incident that reportedly took place more than 20 years ago is not only legally unfounded but also entirely incorrect,” he added. “This statement about an incident that purportedly took place more than 20 years ago.”
“Unfortunately, Ms. Root has been influenced into making false accusations against Nick for a number of years now, and these accusations have altered both frequently and considerably over time.”
In addition, Holtz stated that “no one should be mislead by a publicity move coordinated by an opportunistic lawyer – there is nothing in this statement, and we have no doubt that the courts will quickly realise this.”
According to the allegations made in the lawsuit, Carter followed Ruth into the restroom after she had had her alcoholic beverage and then insisted that she perform oral sex with him. It states that the plaintiff “reluctantly fulfilled his claim” while he was “alone and under pressure.” “During the course of the trial, the plaintiff shed tears.”
Allegedly, the singer then took Ruth to a different room on the tour bus, where he “threw the plaintiff on the bed and began to sit on her.” Ruth subsequently filed a lawsuit against the musician.
She stated that she “begged him to stop” and tried to leave, but that “every time she shouted no and tried to get up, Carter got upset and pushed her harder.” She also claimed that she tried to leave the scene.
Following the assault, Carter is reported to have grabbed Ruth, referred to her as a “retarded little bitch,” and told her that no one would believe her if she talked. The claimed victim reportedly suffers from autism as well as cerebral palsy, as stated in the complaint.
Nick Carter denied an allegation of rape made by former Dream singer Melissa Schuman in 2017, calling himself “shocked and saddened” by this accusation and stating that, in his opinion, their sexual contact was “consensual.” Melissa Schuman accused Nick Carter of raping her when she was a member of Dream.
After some time had passed, Schuman stated that she had told the authorities about the singer.
